Hi guys, I'm having a bit of trouble diagnosing the problem, here's the story:
I left my car (1996 GSX) in a garage for about 8 months. I come back and I check the oil, and all the fluids. The battery wasn't disconnected, so naturally it was dead. It was an optima red top. I charged it for a couple hours, poured a little oil in after making sure levels were close to full, then started the car. It sounded okay, rather than a few stutters here and there that worked itself out after a few minutes. I was satisfied with the results, but I still couldn't pull the car out of the garage just yet...the tires were flat.
So I borrowed a friends air compressor, filled the tires up, tried to start it again...no go. Then I hooked up my friends car to mine to jump it. It starts fine, but when my friend disconnected the terminals from my battery...there was a flicker of all the lights in my car, and my radio went dead, and woudln't let me set the code. The interior lights were on, just nothing on the stock cd player screen. So I drive it out of the garage....let it idle for a while, cuz I want to get it up to operating temps. After a few minutes, it starts to idle weird (fluctuating from normal idle to low back to normal, to low, etc etc probably dipping in rpm once every full second).
So I go in the car and start to rev it, to keep it more consistant...well when I rev it past 2k rpm, my windshield wipers start going. The faster I rev above 2k rpm the faster the wipers go. I'm like WTF? My radio won't work, and neither will my interior air controls. The ABS light is flickering a bit, so I turn it off. I'm thinking maybe something happened to the ECU, so I disconnect the battery to reset the ECU, I try to start the car again, and now it just wont' start. What happens is... on the first turn of the ignition sequence, where you just power up the electrical system, I hear a slight noise from under the hood, it sounds kinda like someone pulling the ebrake, just half as loud, and kinda muffled coming from the right side of the engine if you were looking at it from the front. I think, "Damn, my ecu is F--ked", So I take out my DSMLINKed Eprom, and stick in my old 96 ECU which was fine. They both were fine prior to my leaving. Then I try to start it again...same weird ebrake noise on electrical powerup, and still nothing, not 1 small sound when I turn the key to the 2nd stage (ignition), but now my radio works, and I can set the code, the ABS light is not on, but when I do power up the electricity, the stock boost gauge raises to the first bar.
So, needless to say, there ARE electrical problems, and I'm thinking it was because of that weird shock the car went through when the jumper cables were being disconnected. But now I can't tell if the starter is dead, if the ECU is dead (which I doubt, cuz I swapped em) or if its a blown fuse (would blown fuses cause those kind of symptoms?) or did I seize the engine when I had it idling?
Lemme know what you guys think please. I'm dying to get my car on the road after all this time. I was planning on finishing my review of the Eliminator 18G I installed before I left. Thanks.
