Just got talon , wont go in gear

hello, i just traded for a 95 or 96 eagle talon n/t, the problem is , well , it was wrecked and i got it off a body shop. it wont go into gear , it is an automatic , put it in drive , noting , like netrual , put it in reverse , bam , works, then if u play with the shifter for a minute in reverse , u can make it go into drive , but when it does , the car idles down low , has no power , and back fires , can anyone lead me in the right direction as i wish not to part this one out , thanks !

Honestly though it sounds like you have more problems then you think, for starters, an old Dodge Spirit I had went through the same problem, transmission was shot. Sounds like yours may be too.

Yea you will need a new tranny most likely, it sucks you got ripped off. Good luck tho!

thanks for the replys, i traded a 99 turbo bug licked in the front end for the talon plus $1700, the talon has a perfect body, the bug needed some work , , but if the tranny is all that is wrong , no prob , i'll fix it , but i didnt know about the bogin down real bad in gear and backfireing , im going to play with it tommorrow , thanks for the info !
