toronto,
Hi, I have a 94 eagle talon(non-turbo) and for quite some time I have been having problems with my brakes. It has been getting increasing worse. When im driving im hearing a ticking sound from the back tire and when I brake it makes a horrible squicking noise. Also when I feather the brakes to slow down it makes a noise(can't discribe) but if I had to relate it to something i would compare it to sound car makes when you drive and E-brake is on or when parked on a hill and you roll back with E-brake on. I am completely stumped on what the problem may be, I have recently purchased new brakes and the rotors are good(i machined them just to be safe). It might be a bent caliper or rotor, im not sure or i've been looking on this web-site & people are saying it could be "the wheel bearing". Lastly when I had the car on a hoist and I spun the back tires one spun freely and the other would spin but would stop and was touching something b/c you heard metal contact but my mechanic said that was normal(i personally dont think so). I am asking for any suggestions on what it can be and how to fix it. Thanx for your time.

Like he said, a siezed caliper, probably its old and all the grease is gone inside.

Does the steering wheel shake at all? If the back brake is sounding like it is, always rubbing its probably the caliper or the brake dust shield in bent into the rotor and that is the noise.

Thanks guys,
I think you helped me with a problem I have been fighting with for a few months.

I picked up a used '92 Tsi that had just a horrible bent rotor feeling. when slowing from interstate speeds the car would shake insanely and the steering wheel would go nuts. however, becuase I was on a extremely tight budget I only replaced the rt. rear rotor because that looked visible warped with an uneven pattern on it. That took care of 80% of the issue. Later, the problem seemed to worsen so I replaced the front 2 rotors. it was pretty darn good for a while after that but started doing it again. Then the timing belt broke.. but that's a different story.

but if I understand that post correctly, the steering wheel going side to side rapidly when brakeing means a caliper messed up?
if that is so, how is replaceing different rotors making the brakeing smoother?

Thanks
