started about a month ago. i entered a trun at a high rpm and as i was pulling thru it i heard something pop, then from the rear of the car a trail of bluish smoke came puring out. it eventually stopped, but the car was still running as if nothing had happened. but from that point on, as the car accelerates and boost gains, as soon as i let off of the pedal, somke will puff out if i quickly give it gas again, or it will bellow out if stay off the gas. my assumption is that it is turbo related since it will only smoke after boost, not during or before and it eventually stops. as far as i can tell it is not coming from the tailpipe. after getting under the car i could see a line of oil running down the front of my motor, onto my downpipe and halfway down the car. it is also on the driveshaft, all over my alternator, oil filter, oil pan, and the strangest thing is that it has found a way to the top of the exhaust manifold (around the studs in the head). however there is no oil on the turbo itself, there is hardly any shaftplay in the turbo, and there is no oil in the compressor side of the turbo, or in any of my intake pipes. i took the oil feed line apart and re-teflon-taped the threads and put it back together very snugly. i also replaced the valve cover gasket, and the oil fill cap. i have no idea where this oil is coming from and its getting really embarassing around town. also at idle i can rev the motor up to about 4-5 grand and after i let off i can see a steady puff of smoke come from the timing belt side of the motor. i also took the timing belt cover off and there was no sign of oil on the belt or any components under there. does anyone have ANY idea whats going on?  (sorry for the long text)

I am having the same exact problem, except my oil burn is definitley comming out of the tailpipe. This occurred after I fixed a boost leak and I accidentally hit 20 psi. I immediately adjusted the psi on my mbc, but a few minutes later, I started blowing blue smoke only after letting off the turbo. At idle it would do it to intermittently. But, exactly as you describe. I definitley have a oil leak on tip of my valve cover, I wonder if theoil is somehow seeping into the area between the manifold gasket. I don't have an answer yet, but lets work on it together.

oh, one thing if you look really close at the top front right side of your valve cover, you will notice a tiny drain hole, this allows any oil on the top of the valve cover to drain out, unfortunatley, that is right onto the exhaust manifold, especially if you have the manifold heat shield off.

right now its my only means of transportation and i am currently unemployed hence no money to have it diagnosed. besides, noone here in my town knows shit about turbos. theyre all v8 n/a or nitrous rednecks. ive been troubleshooting it this whole time but to no avail.

recently i tightened up the downpipe to the o2 housing, there was a slight leak there. maybe the smoke was coming from that leak and the tail pipe at the same time. i guess my next resort is to buy a stock turbo and see if that ends the smoking. a friend of mine that works on some turbo cars said that its the turbo since it smokes only under boost. (rings=smoke all the time, valve stem seals=smoke at startup)
