Windsor,
I got a few problems, not sure what to do about them. First is occasionally, now becoming more often, when i get on the gas and build boost, the car almost feels like it is braking, as if it just does not want to go anywhere. I have no mods, all is stock except for K&N filter. I notice i am running a bit rich, i am a newb, not too sure what to do there. Any hints or tips would be apprecaited. I have been through forums briefly, and there are many suggestions, maybe if sumone could narrow it down to the "preferred" method to fix these problems, it would be great. :dsm:

5 spd, i also smell oil, i have no leaks, good pressure, i check everyday and the level is good, where may this be comin from?

i'm not sure what you mean when you say you feel like the car is breaking. however it does sound a lot like your clutch might be slipping. if your clutch is bad it will begin slipping especially in the higher gears first when you are building boost or putting a lot of load on the engine. Whats the condition of your clutch, that might be a good place to start...as far as running rich all of these cars run rich straight from the factory. You might want to invest in a data logger and maybe a SAFC. aside from that, thats all i can help you with without hearing more or looking at the car. Good luck :thumb:

When i say braking, it is almost as if at a certain point, there is no more power. I will be increasing in boost, in speed, but then it just stops and almost sputters a bit to try to go faster. Not sure if it would be a clutch problem, it is fairly new. Someone had suggested checking my O2 sensor? These arent cheap so i am gonna ask the forums b4 i go out and buy one, but could this be it?

try dropping in a normal cheap air filter, see what that does for you. the K&n for a 1g eclipse that is a drop in replacement, actually does a dissatisfaction for the car by bringing the top of the air filter closer to the opening of the mass air flow sensor causing it to be harder to bring air in through the mass. if you don;t believe me get out a ruler and measure the depth of a stock oem filter and the k&n. my gas mileage took a shit in my 1g dsm with a k&n compared to using a stock filter. and when i put the stock filter back in my gas mileage goes back up.

www.knfilterchargers.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=E-2875

thats the specs on the k&n they say its 6" deep the stock air filter is pretty close to 7" deep (i have one in front of me now) when combined with that long mass sensor that leaves very little cfm if you were to take the volume of the area above mass that brings in the most of the air.

this restriction could be causing your problems its worth a shot
much cheaper than trying a o2 sensor if you don;t have the equipment to monitor it with out intfering with the circuit. it can be done with a multimete but that will cause some error because the multi meter will becausing a voltage drop even though it most likely has a 10Mohm input or more it still affect the circuit but if you do it this way moral of what you are looking for i believe is for the voltage to be bouncing in between 400mV and 800mV if i can recall correctly

i also have a hacked air box with a stock filter and when i put the drop in kn replacement i can notice my car is slower. and so does my gas gauge because it goes down really fast with that filter almost twice as fast. and i just did a tune up 2 weeks ago. that cuased my gas mileage to go up then i put the kn in and it was worse gas mileage than before the tuneup.

the multimeter gets hooked up in parrallel

another good qoute from a fellow engineering buddy "dude, its all about cfm" this is so true
