Hi-beams to headlights...will this work?

A few weeks ago I was in a small head-on collision in which the front driver's side headlight was smashed in. The light worked for a few weeks but was pointed in the wrong direction. The light has since gone out and I do not have the money to fix the extensive amount of damage, which finally brings me to my question. Is it possible to replace to the hi-beam bulbs with normal bulbs? My hi-beams work and this would at least delay the repair. Also if it will work could I do this myself and will it still pass inspection? Sorry this is so long but I appreciate any help I can get.

Not very well. The beam is more to do with the reflector than the bulb. They aim the bulb's light differently.

I don't imagine an inspector will let you through, either, but I don't know squat about what Mass inspects.

Yea im pretty sure you need 100% fully functioning headlights to pass inspection. You should probably just look for a whole new drivers side headlight from a junkyard or off the trader, I doubt you will pass with a smashed headlight. But I dunno about mass. inspections, I dont think that shit flys here in delaware.

No you cannot put low beam bulbs in the high beam socket on a 1G, IE:9006 bulb in place of the 9005. The size of the base that goes into the housing is a diffrent size. You can go the other way and put the 9005 hi beam bulb in the low beam socket with some slight modification, but thats been covered already.

Thank you for the replies. Defiant, is there anyway to change the orientation of the bulb in order to reduce the brightness? If there is do you know of a place to find a procedure?

Show us a pic of the damage. I am thinking that a visit to a junkyard might solve your problem within your budget.
