Ok I have a few questions before I start doing this tomorrow and mess something up.
If you have any opinions please state them.

Car : 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi fwd.

Problem : The car had a brand new battery put in it, 4 days later I buy the car and the battery dies out? It was only 4 days old I had the reciept. I put in another new battery, Worked 1 and a half days. Tonight, All my lights started to dim.. When I bought the car, The radiator, battery, and brake light were flickering on and off on the instrument cluster? So anyways. Tonight All my lights dim really bad, I go to step on the gas and the power that was there earlier has gone away, It also paused for like a second and then went but not fast. The wipers and turn signals were also going rediculously slow, like barly going at all? I got it home and turned it off, I went to turn it back on and it wouldent even crank?

My question is, Are these the symptoms of a starter or alternator? Maybe both?

Can I take the starter(only 1 month old) out of my 1990 gsx and put it in this car?

Also, Can I take the alternator off my 1990 Eclipse gsx and put it in this car?

I really dont have any other ideas as to what the problem could be. All's I know is all the lights dimmed so bad that they almost dissapeared, And the wipers, windows, seatbelts..hardly moved at all, VERY SLOWLY. When the car was able to start it would crank for about 5 seconds then start.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am going to work on this when I wake up today.
Thanks in advance.
Rob.

sounds like the alternator based on my similar experience, plus it seems like it since the new battery isn't getting charged. Try swapping the alternator, but make sure to recharge the battery fully before putting it back on. It's not good for an alternator to have to fully charge a battery

If you haven't already checked it, check and make sure your positive battery terminal isn't touching your hood, and if thats not it i would say alternator too.

alternator or battery. make sure u check the fuse too.

Seems like the altenator to me had the same problems you discribed fickering lights dim head lights replaced altenator havnt had any problems.

:talon:

I had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G:

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - Ampere P/N 21491

- Cost was about $150.00

- I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery that pushes a 500 Watt Sony Amp & head Unit no problems - no dimming, etc.

I put it on Car Ramps & come from underneath so no need to remove Fan - It's still a PITA...

Make sure you have NO Power Steering Fluid leaks dripping on your Alt - that will kill the Voltage Regulator in a Hearbeat & can toast your ECU...

It was definatly the alternator. I bought a brand new one and it started right up!

The fuse he is talking about is most likly the fuse under the hood of the car. The fuse under the hood on the passanger side of the car fuse box.

FYI ,The answer to your original question is yes, you can just use the alternater from your 90 GSX, no need to buy a new one. You can also have your original one rebuilt at any auto electric shop for a fraction of the cost of a new one, it's usually just the brushes that wear out.( Just so you know for the next time.)
