i have a 2g 99 GST and i get a lot of wheel hop at the track and it's gonna break somethin soon if i dont figure out how to fix it. someone please help me get rid of this problem. how do i eliminate wheel hop. is there any traction bars out there or somethin?

Here is a link from the RRE website, pretty much the only way to get rid of wheel hop without spending loads of cash on a LSD is to fill in your motor mounts (front and rear) or to simply get the Energy Suspension inserts. Filling motor mounts It seemed to work for this guy

i have a 99 GST and i get some crazy wheel hop, how do i get rid of it? is there any traction bars i can buy? the only manufacturer that i know of that makes traction bars is AEBS, but they only make them for hondas.

The FIRST and easiest way to get rid of wheel hop is: SEARCH! :thumb:
then after you have done that then you can get:

Energy Suspension Motor Mount Inserts, you can get those from Summit racing for like 20 bucks. i have these and it is well worth the money. it is only the front and rear mounts but for 20 bucks it makes a great difference. I really like the difference it has made!

Then get a front strut tower brace from ebay for like $18. I dont know how much this helps with wheel hop, but i would imagine it would help at least a little bit.

Then get new shocks and springs. just lower it like 1.5" and get a good set of shocks. best being Koni, then Tokico Illuminas, and KYB AGX's. But you cant go wrong with tokico premium blues. that is what i have and i love them for the price i have paid! but if you have a ton of money, you can always go with a high quality Tein system! :thumb:

Then if iwheel hop is still a big deal to you, then you can get a full Prothane motor mount kit, but this will give you alot of vibration at idle. but it should clear up some more of that nasty wheel hop.

then if you have alot of cash just burning a hole into your pocket, you can invest in a quality LSD, ex: Kaaz, or Quaife. These are expensive, but you will hook up almost as good as an AWD!

good luck, and if you find cheaper ways of reducing wheel hop. please let me know. as i suffer from the FWD syndrom also! :dsm:

You can DIY motor mounts pretty cheap (i've never done it though). There is a link/review on DSMtalk Here is the link to it

I have the prothane motor mounts and they do increase shaking at idle but its not unbearable and they do REDUCE wheel hop. I still get it every once and awhile.

The suspension is most important to do, espically the shocks which I plan to upgrade next. (Already did the back).

Springs/struts also help, and quality tires can grip better also. A high powered FWD car will always get a little wheel hop, but there are ways to decrease it. An LSD Is the best way but its like $1000 and you gotta open up the tranny. Also get a dual stage boost controller, run stock boost for 1 stage, then set the other stage for your desired boost level (16PSi etc). Flip the switch to the first stage, launch, and when you have traction flip the switch and be GONE!!!!!!!!! or you could just race from a roll... :thumb: Good luck!

Yep AFAIK drag radials are the best tires to use (within reason, im sure all out racing slicks would be the best ;)) to reduce wheel hop.

Slicks are indeed the best, but you'd better have some pretty strong axles.

how much are those mounts? i plan on gettin the TEIN super streets. i had them on my subaru and they were the best suspension i ever bought. is there any kind of traction bar available for the gst? and what kind of axles are available, i was thinking of getting some DSS 500hp+ axles. those should hold up nicely.

energy suspensions inserts will help with wheel hop, along with suspenstion and better tires

hey anyone know a quick way to get those energy suspension inserts? i had to cancel my last order because they were just not coming in....
now i need a new place to order from... any recommendations. plz pm me and drop off some tips. thanks again. :dsm:

i think i got the same thing, in 1st towards the end if youre at full throttle, the front end hops a little. i got the solution. dont give her full throttle in 1st. launch easy, punch it till she spools and shift at about 5k. then hit second and open her up, and make sure to hold that wheel, cause shell like to travel all over the lane. theres my solution, and by the end of 2nd youre pretty much winning anyways

i had wheel hop, installed illuminas, prokits, bm lsd insert, strut bar and ener. sus. front and rear mounts, it's pretty much gone but i'm only running 14 psi on a 16g.

I have 17"rims 2"drop w/ kyb agx struts i get mad wheel hop............. so i set the struts 2 stiff in rear and bouncy in front and let air out of my tires from 35psi to 25psi and i get no wheel hop at all, the launch feels sweet now where b4 i would just peel out and hophop

I ran a 15.5 stock w/ intake exhaust and mbc i got mad wheel hop then i set my struts to stiff in rear and bouncy in front and put my tires from 35psi to 25psi and i dont hop at all and got a 14.9!!

I have some wheel hop right now its really bad! its that my front right coil-over is messed up and my motor mount? is bad? so that might be something and do you have stock suspision? well good luck and what rpms are you taking of? at?

The bad news is that to get rid of the wheel hop completely you need to spend some good cash...

But a new set of Shocks/Struts, Motor mounts, and lowering springs or coilovers will definetaly make a difference, but it all depends in the brands you use. You'll get rid of pretty much all of the Wheel hop, but this is relative to the tires and boost you have.
After that the next thing to do, is get a LSD, and suspension bushings...
