hey guys, quick question. i cut off my cat and put on a straight pipe and i get a buzzy honda sound now. i hate that sound. i also got a new freer flowing muffler that supposedly has a deep smooth sound to it that im putting on tomorrow. my question is- to get rid of that buzzy sound should i put on a glass pack before i get my new muffler on? will this help any?

well i got this 3 inch pipe coming off my turbo to the back of the car, and then a big hollow muffler.. that helps...loud, but not ricey.

when I got my car it had this fart can thing, and it sounded just like a honda, now it just sounds nasty.

think of an instrument. a
tuba is deeper than a trumpet becase its bell is bigger. more room for the sound to reasonate hence a lower tone.

if it looks like a muffler, but just happens to be hollow, you will have a loud obnoxious, but non buzzy sound.

if its just a tip you might want to try a glass pack... but I have never heard one on a four banger, though it sounded pretty sweet on a five cylinder.

also, what exactly does a glasspack do for the tone? does it quiet it up some, does it smooth it out, or does it give it more of a growl?

well a glass pack takes the harmonics and tones them down.

High pitched sounds, are created by air molecules moving very quickly with little "force", while low pitched sounds are air molecules moving slower with more "force".

This is why base travels farther ie when you can hear the base of your neibors stereo or the base in the car next to you... but not the tune.

when the exhaust goes through a glass pack, the glass, in the tube absorbs some of the force of these molecules, but because the higher pitched molecule are not applying as much force they do not "break through" as well. Thus, all sound is quited down a bit, and higher pitched tones are eleminated, or atleast reduced enough to be covered by the lower tones.

in addition, glass is an amorphic solid, not a crystaline solid, so the glass does not reverberate the tone, which also cuts down on the higher piches, again because they are absorbed by the glass.

did that answer your question?

well the main reason it sounds nasty id b/c you have a n/t. You'll need the cat to gain back pressure or you'll just end up lossing power with your exhaust setup. If i were you i'd get a hi-flow cat. :thumb:
