Help Me please i/c house or what??? dieing at 1.5k

Went to work the car was working fine...

When coming home from work I stepped on it and then began to slow down and all of a sudden the car died then came back on very fast a couple times... i lost all power steering... I pulled the car to the side of the road and would try to start it but it would pop up to 1.5k then die.... or i would keep pressing the gas and it would keep going but smell very gassy out the exhaust pipe.

Im extremely nervous and getting sick at my stomach cause no car no clue, and finals are soon.

PLEASE HELP or ask me questions to help me come to an answer

Did all of the gauges inside of the car flash and do you hear a ticking noise from behind the radio area? If so, check the ECU. If not, i dont know what to tell ya man. Good luck!
 
I did here a clicking behind the radio... i have heard it for awhile now when starting my car... but now its longer and louder??? could there possible be a fried ECU?
 
i just had a smilar problem happen to me. Pop open your dash underneath your shifter and pull out the ECU (metal box thousand wires hooked into it) Open the ECU four screws around the out side and smell it. Seafood stink means your capacitors started leaking. Doesn't mean your ECU is dead just replace the caps and hopefully you got to it in time. You said you can get it to run a little so sounds good :thumb:

check out www.tmo.com for an faq on changing the caps. And some of the venders on the links page sell the caps. I was surprised that when I got mine all the values on the caps matched only on 2 of the 3 when I called and asked about it they told me that the 1 different one isnt available any more...sounds like crap to me but its close enough so that the thing is running again.
 
Well i cant get it to run... i can have it turn on and just bump up to 1.5k then dies or if i give it gas it just sits there and pops up and down... JOHNK do you have any messager services???? and does anyone else have any comments
 
do 1g's have pop like that? i know my ecu is under my dash, but it will take forever to crank over, so i let it crank for 3-4 sec. or whatever, then stop, let all the gauges reset, hear the tick, and turn it over again and it runs fine. is this from the ecu as well? btw it starts fine when warm.
 
I had the same thing happen to my vr4. not sure about the 1g but the vr4 has a delay on accessories to roll up windows after taking the key out for ~20secs I think. ECU was borked and shut things off @ random, loud click from relay right before everything died.

If you know someone to let u use their ecu you can check this, pick one up for cheap or have yours rebuilt. Don't just replace the caps, acid eats away at your boards after they started leaking, clean, retrace them if needed, or better yet,buy a used/rebuilt one.
