Urgent Help!! Car wont start, blown Tranny or Engine?

Situation: Car wont start..it seems like it wants to start but it wont, the engine even shakes when trying to start.

Cause: I was testing my car out at a str8 way with no cars around. I was in 3rd gear getting ready to shift to 4th, and all of a sudden it goes in second instead..i cant remember what exactly happened but the car just seemed liek it shut off, the power steering wouldnt work, the brakes went out, had to put it into neutral to push it off the road. Now this is thing, my clutch has always been not that good, it wont shift into 4th gear sometimes because of a bad clutch, my mechanic only bleed the clutch after i bought this car, he didnt do anything about the hard shifting.

ANY HELP will be appreciated..its urgent. I know most of yall proabbly think i blew my engine or my tranny went out but to my knowledge it doesnt seem like it did but than again i dont know. Im guessing its the timing since when you start the car it seems like something is misfiring.

Sorry to here that.

Off the top of my head it sound like Valve trane. Hopefully you just slipped a tooth on the timing belt. You lost brake because the engine died and you lost vacuum.

Check the valve timing. If it slipped try putting it back in time. Then do a compression check to see if you bent anything. If it checks out OK replace the belt.

Hey thankyou so so much for your help. i actually gave up on this post since nobody replied..but today my dads friend who is a mechanic came down (he was off from work) just to take a peek of whats wrong..and he said most likely its the timing belt that has slipped a tooth, or the worst case scenario..bent valves which=new engine. To his knowledge it is just a timing error but i guess ill have to wait and see. Thanks for your help. AND nice Name..TSI's are quick..watcha talkin bout..j/k??

yea check your timing belt make sure the marks (on the intake and exhaust cams) still line up...anyway if you bent valves you would need a new/rebuilt head not a whole new engine (well unless the pistons somehow got damaged by the bent valves).

Hey bro are you sure i only need a new/rebuilt head, because my mechanic told me i better be expecting a brand new engine if my valves are bent. Which i hope is not the case since everyone so far is pointing to the timing belt as my problem.

Well there is no way for me to be 100% sure until you pop the head off, but if its just the valves that are bent then why would you need a new engine?? Valves are in the head! Ive never heard of anybody replacing the whole engine for bent valves, unless the pistons somehow got damaged (like if they came into contact with the valves). Even then, a slight rebuild would fix it.

Ummm...valves bend when they COME IN CONTACT with the pistons. The valves most likely left indentations in the pistons and depending how high of an RPM the engine was at, you may need to replace the pistons.
