OverHeat, White Smoke, Bubbling radiator fluid: Do these sound like a head gasket problem? I can drive the car for like 4 miles and it will overheat severely -- even when I am driving it at very low RPMS. If this is the head gasket, and it is indeed gone, what are some aftermath symptoms i could encounter? do i need to check anything else to ensure the car is still fine after a new head gasket? thanks for any info...

also, what is a good head gasket to replace this with? and where do i get it?

While my engine is torn apart, what else should I replace? What are optional things to replace? cams? what else? I figure if I have it apart I might as well do something with it. Any input again is greatly appreciated. Can I lower the compression so I can run more boost? is this a good thing? how would i go about it? will the stock turbo keep up?

Sorry for posting in the wrong forums -- thanks for moving it.

Well you really don't have to tear the engine apart (like the bottom end) just take the head off. About lowering compression, what are you plans for the car? What mods do you have? I don't think you really need to tear the whole engine apart and lower compression when you are changing a head gasket, unless you wanna run below 11s (maybe even 10s, the 4G63 is a hell of a block). Anyway you could do cams while the head is off, that is probably a good time. Again what plans do you have for the car, I would recommend HKS 264/264 cams if you have slight/moderate mods in mind, and 272/272 if you have more extreme mods. Although some people run HKS 272/272 stock and don't have any idle/driveability problems. You should probably research what cams to buy (264/264 or 272/272 or maybe something different). Another thing you might wanna do while the head is off is put in revised lifters (so you dont get lifter tick) - I think the 3G lifters are the revised ones??? Heres the VFAQ for cleaning/replacing lifters - http://www.vfaq.com/mods/lifters.html Also definetly get ARP head studs, check out the VFAQ - http://www.vfaq.com/mods/headstuds.html Good luck, and you should probably do a compression check before jumping into all this - it could save you a lot of money ;)! Gotta love VFAQ - http://www.dsmgrrrl.com/FAQs/compression.htm

Man I think I set a record - 3 VFAQs in one paragraph (dont mind me im trying to learn by checking out VFAQs)!

get a 4layer oem metal headgasket, u need one. and get it from slowboyracing.com i found they are the cheapest, well, for me at least because i can drive there. there shipping price is pretty reasonable too.

Does your radiator fluid look milky? My buddy was experiencing the same symtoms you were and he went as far as throwing in a newly rebuilt 6 bolt and just about everything else. Didnt help. Turns out it was his oil cooler that was being stupid and once we swapped in a new one all the problems were fixed. Before going as far as tearing your motor apart check the little things like that, my mechanic calls it the KISS method: Keep It Simple Stupid GL

everyonce and a while my coolant will bubble and overflow after i shut the car down. no white smoke or anything and i just replaced the thermostat. maybe its just too full. i also drained a bit to see if the c oolant was milky and it wasnt. it better not be, i have a mitsu 4 layer metal hg!! LOL.
