Squealing sound coming from transmission when I start car

Every time I start my car I hear a squealing sound coming from or around the transmission. It sounds like a chipmunk and the sound only lasts a few seconds. I originally thought it was a pulley but then I had a friend start the car with the hood open and it is indeed coming from the trany area.

What could this be?

Bendix on the starter, mine does it sometimes, your ok, but your starter might go soon
