hey all
couple of questions that i've been wondering about for a while now, and one that just popped up tonight... so they're all gonna be in this thread
new car, just got it a few weeks ago.. 96 TSI 5spd... 86k miles
first of all, i noticed this weekened for the first time (while replacing my crank pulley) that if you just turn the key to "on" without starting the car, and leave it for a second (which i havn't had reason to do till lately, so i wouldn't have noticed if it did this before or not) there's a click under the hood.. and i could swear the click comes from every damn wiring harness on the engine.. i could swear i even here it at the MAS... i found that odd.. but just wondering if any of you thought the same
second; if you're under the hood while the engine is running, you can hear a ticking.. and it soudns to me like it's coming from the intake manifold... and if you rev the engine, there's an rpm range where you can hear a much louder, sharper ...ticking... which i don't think sounds good... though my dad can't even hear it.. (not that he hears high pitched sounds well.. heh). i think the rpm range is around 2k, but with my face under the hood, i can't see the tach very well.
tonight i got my KNN FIPK and installed that... the car now feels like it has a bit more power.. but not real noticable at the take off or anything... but i've only test driven it for a min.. i do believe i accelerate quicker though.. annyyywhooo.. my question here is that after i installed my KNN, the biggest difference was the sounds my car makes.. now i can hear my turbo spool up a lot louder, and i also hear a very noticable BOV noise... which i found odd. and if i floor it in like 3rd starting out at 30mph, when the stock boost gauge (..yeah, yeah) gets to the "high-middle" mark, you can hear like a whining/hissing.. which i could hear before, but it's a hell of a lot louder now... my question is if these sounds sound normal to you guys
i don't think the hissing is a boost leak or anything.. but i was suprized at how much louder my car was after installing the KNN..

oh, and uh.. car is completely stock in terms of performance atm besides this KNN i just added... again, i've only had the car a few weeks so i've only put a stereo in.....
