need help but not on a DSM

My girlfriend had her car (99 mecury cougar V6 5spd) towed to a shop because her e-brake lines froze up and wasnt disengaging properly. I couldnt fix it because we're up at college right now and i dont have a garage to work on it and its currently 30 degrees outside. Anyways, what happend is that we asked for a flat bed truck because the rear wheels were froze and figured it would be eaiser to tow on a flat bed but they said they could tow it from the rear with the front wheels on the ground. Thats all well and good but when my girlfriend rode in the tow truck on the way to the shop she said that they had to stop after about a half mile becasue the driver said the car was pulling hard. So the driver put the front wheels on dollies and continued to the shop. My girlfriend also said she could smell and see a little smoke coming from the car but it was just a little and shes a girl and doesnt know anything about cars (of course any one of us would have said something). After the car was towed to the shop, the shop called and said that the car wont turn over and they tried to manually turn the crank with a breaker bar and it is seized. So then I called a guy i know from back home who owns and operates a towing and car repair shop and he said that what probally happend was that the guy that towed it probally towed the car while in gear and caused the teeth on the timing belt to jump and bend all the valves causing the motor not to turn over either direction. what is your diagnosis?

Ive already taked to the tow truck company and they are being dicks but who knows mabye the lawyers will have to get involved on this one.

Well I cant really diagnose the problem but that is ecaxtly what it sounds like. When my buddies car skipped timming and killed all the valves we could turn the car over at all. Again this it just from examples that I have actually seen. I am nto even sure if that motor is an interferance motor but I am guessing it is.

As far as the towing company the ones that I have dealt with are all ingnorant high school dropouts that cant count to ten if there life depended on it. My buddy that skipped timming need a tow truck and told them four times to send a flat bed and that the car is AWD. They didnt send it. He told them to go back and do it again they sent an other truck that wasnt a flat bed. They got it right the third time. I would go in and tell them what happened and ask them what they plan on doing to fix the situation. If they say nothing then tell them you will see them in court. I am guessing that they will just blame it on somehting else. what ever you do dont let them get away with it.

I forgot to say, lawyers would be the best idea at this point. The only bad thing is that when she signed the bill, she probably didn't realive that she signed a wavier of damage. Look into that.

You don't sign away reasonable service. Having your engine destroyed by a mongoloid isn't really why you hired a tow truck.

Lawyer time. With luck, he'll only have to write one letter before the tow company's insurance takes care of the new engine. Oh, and they should come up with a driveable car while you're waiting on the fix.

yeah well listen to this bull... the towing company said that they would pay to have the repair shop dig into the motor and find out what exactly caused the problem but we said no because what keeps them from messing up something to make it look like it wasnt their fault. The towing company and repair shop owners know eachother so it seemed like a shady deal to me. Yesterday, after all that, the towing company finally agreed to fix the motor and pay for it all so we let the repair shop go to work. Well today my girlfriend gets a call from the repair shop and says that they started the job but found that the damage was not from the towing and now the tow company wont cover for the damages anymore. This is so shady because now we dont know if they sabotaged it or not because they began the work already without anybody from our side overseeing the whole thing. The only reason we let the shop start the work on it was because the tow company said they would pay for the new motor. The shop says that the damage was caused by low oil pressure. Now to me i would assume that its still the tow companys fault becasue they towed the car in gear thus all internals are turning, but the motors not running so of course there was no oil pressure. i dont even belive that low oil pressure was the culpret anyways... it was only towed like that for about an half a mile. My girlfriend is really stressed out and that stresses me out. This really sucks... i hate almost every mechanic and or white trash tow companies. sorry for the venting. peace

I hate to add fuel to the fire but, Make sure u get a lawyer , Try and explain to the repair shop that if the car was being pulled from the rear wheels the car was moving in reverse and if the car was in gear (1st thru 5th ) the motor was spinning the oppisite direction , and depending on which gear it was more than likely spinning pretty quick, note the oil pump only works in one direction, the direction it was spinnign was the wrong direction thus pulling oil form the motor. So I would go back to the shop you are having repair the car and thro that in their face.
Oh yea the shop had to get u to sign a work order release that gave an estamate and if they didnt contact you or you didnt sign the release you dont have to pay a dime.
