Bad Mass Air Flow Sensor?

My 92 Eclipse GSX runs fine when I remove the mass air flow sensor and filter, but when I put it back on, the car stumbles and misfires. Does that mean I really have a bad maf sensor? Mitsu. says they don't even carry those in stock b/c they really never go bad.
 
If you want to, you could swap over to a 2G style sensor. But in the long run it's prolly worth it to get a MAFT.
 
I'm not looking for upgrades right now, I'm looking to get my car back on the road so I can go to work.
 
go to a salvage yard and get one, try it out and you can always return it if it isn't your problem. The mopar dealership thought my MAS was bad when my car was ideling rough, turned out to be my BISS screw.... dumbasses.
 
Yeah, that sounds right to me. The lower honeycomb is removed and the screw was backed out a little. I ordered another maf to try out, hopefully it works.
 
I know you're not looking to mod, but for the future, get a MAF-T setup to run big power and not worry about the stupid stock MAF's.
 
I put in the MAF I got from another 1G turbo that was in good condition. The car doesn't seem to have problems during idle, but anytime I accelerate it will stumble and run like garbage. I have new plugs/wires/coils/ecu caps/battery/alternator, what could cause this? one fuel injector is leaking a bit at the seal, that can't be it right?
 
It sure could. your taking that cylinder out of the ball game. However, you describe multiple system failures in your note.
Today cars have the ability to communicate with us through stored fault information. The CEL is only a guidepost to the potential problem. Enabling a scanning tool to your dataport, such as a Snap On Diagnostic scanner will reveal a host of information and point you in the right direction. DIY does not have to be limited to guesswork. Todays diagnostic tools are becoming cheaper and more accessible. Contact your local car club for availability of these devices.
