Oil Pressure question

Hi,

My setup includes a FP Big T28 (I was running 20PSI of boost) and the supporting parts. I have an autometer lunar mechanical oil pressure gauge.
My question is what max oil pressure will I have at which RPM's? I read a forum in which they stated not to go over 60 PSI. My car will have at idle 10-20 PSI. At cruise around 40PSI. And at wide open throttle I will have pressure up to 80 PSI. Is this normal or too high?

Keep in mind you're reading the pressure right at the pump. The numbers posted for DSM oil pressures are astounding to me, but I'm used to having a sender on the block's main oil gallery (Dastuns), not at the output side of the pump.

Don't be so much concerned with indicated value as aware of deviations from your engine's "normal". Also, it's normal to see it drop to almost nothing at idle.

Thank gawd... for the search function and Defiant's answer.

I have good oil pressure at start up, and cruising but a minute or so at a stop light and the Oil Pressure drops to almost nothing unless I tap the go pedal. Before I found this post, I was really concerned my oil pump or guage/sender was hosed.

This is the best car forum, I have ever been a member of. It has helped me several times already in the short time I have owned my Eclipse.

does it drop so low the pressure light comes on? If not, what needs to be replaced, because the pressure seems fine when underway.

It doesn't get low enough to light the no oil lamp. If it does, it's usually from the light sender being bad.

It seems I remember there being a TSB about that somewhere. Is this a fairly common problem?

If you'd researched you'd see you will have 100psi PLUS at WOT & when COLD - Then you'll blow the guts out of that Mechanical Gauge & throw it out the window when it oils down your passenger compartment.

If you did some research you will know that wot with a cold engine isn't smart!
I did my research and the only value I found was not to exceed 60PSI.
Nothing more, that's the reason I am putting out this forum to double-check my experience (numbers).

you are CORRECT - I should have said and/or...

If you'd researched you'd see you will have 100psi PLUS at WOT AND / OR when cold.

Just keep a bag of Oil Dry in the car - you'll be fine...
