Well did a hg job on my tsi like what 3 weeks ago. Well lately she's been running pretty poorly, not boosting as much. I just thought it was a boost leak and was planning to do a leak test this weekend. Well while driving around getting the parts for the leak tester I started it up to get major clanking noise. Has to be but one thing-valves hitting pistons. Well since I thought my head was f-cked anyhow I drove it home. My results from a compressiong test was 150, 150, 145, 0. Now how the hell could have this happened? I thought if your timing was to jump then all the valves would be bent. BTW I have a 1g swap w/ 2g pistons. Hey anyone know where I can get a decent priced head too?

Your timing may not have necessarily jumped to cause a dropped valve(s). You may have broken a retainer, valve float, etc. Pull the valve cover and take a look.

Could it have been a valve seal and the noise just be the valve clanking? I also had a rad leak and I'm pretty sure I ran her dry so perhaps it I burnt the seal.

I had my belt slip a couple weeks ago, and while all 8 intake valves hit the pistons, only three were bent, and only very slightly. Your problem is most likely in the head, or it could be that you didn't recheck the head bolt torque, and you blew another gasket. Another thing, when you changed the gasket, did you check to see if the head was warped? Seeing as how you stated you had a leak, and if you overheated it, you probably warped the head. :thumbdown

I'll recheck the torque. I had the head checked and it was fine. The leak is from the housing I know where thats at. A blown head though wouldn't cause the clanking noise. Wish there was a way to put the belt tdc without having to take the damn drive pully off.

I wouldn't bother checking the torque, the damage is already done. If you have 0 on one cylinder, either the gasket is blown, a valve is really bent, or a combo of both. Either way you are looking at another teardown IMO.:barf:

Would there be a reason for the belt to jump like that? I have the balance shafts removed, I just don't understand.

You've answered your own Thread - WTF did you do run it with a leak for?

because it was a small leak and I was able to keep the coolant filled. So you're more thinking of it being a valve seal. Would that cause the clanking?

Hey blown headgasket is good compared to what else it could be. But noone seems to be answering my question. Will a blown hg be the reason for the loud clanking?
=Jason-

No - THIS is the reason for loud Clanking...

So if thats the case I prob bent the valve huh, no way of just fixing that w/out tearing the head apart. Really don't think that its the hg because she didn't get that hot Well I'm taking a look under the cover today to see.

Well after some looking this is what I found out. My tensioner took a crap on me which made my belt almost loose enough to pull off. Yea theres one valve this is majorly bent. I'm going to pull the head off tommarrow and see how much damage there is. Heres a pic.
