how do u know when your turbo is going out. Because i have a big 16g and after i raced a srt4 and walked him my turbo started to sound like a supercharger. but it still holds boost and i checked the turbo and there is very little shaft play. If am one knows i would love the help

Thanks

When do you get the sound...all the time, under boost..what?

The manifold may be cracked causing a whistle when driving. Hopefully nothing got into the turbo causing it to scrape/drag something against the housing.

it doesn't do it at like 5psi but when i get into higher than that then it starts to make the noise. and it only does it under higher than 5 psi. I do have a leak in the gasket for the manifold but i took it to a shopp and they said that could not cause it to make that noise

My 14b sounds like a damn f-16 when it gets going. I have found that the sound is more enhanced the less you have in front of the turbo on the compressor side.

Donno why it would just get worse other than it is trying to move more air now than before. You could have caused a larger leak in the exhaust allowing for less back pressure and more airflow. This increased airflow is making the compressor spin faster and "whine". Also you could have an intake leak.

check the intake.

IMHO good turbos have to whine. If you arn't into the whine yet you are using too big of a turbo or have too much crap muffling the sound.

Check the play on your turbo:

Take the hose to the intake turbine off (while the car is off of course) and reach in to feel the turbine shaft. It should be able to wiggle up/down/frontofcar/backofcar a little bit, but not in/out(leftofcar/rightofcar) at all. Also, spin it, and see if you can hear it hitting the housing.

While you have that intake hose off, make sure that nothing has fallen in and is touching the turbine at all.

I have the same "above 5 psi" noise as you, and it has always been there. I have done a leak test up to 20 psi, and found nothing but the throttle shaft and idle screw to be leaking, though I could hear alot of air moving thru the intercooler. And, I couldn't reproduce the wistle during the test either. I did find later on that my manifold was cracked, and had a broken stud as well. I have come to the conclusion that those last two were responsible for some of the whistling noise.
