What is this part

Hello, a friend of mine has a eagle talon n/t and he had to jump the curb to avoid an accident and we noticed that right in front of the passenger front wheel is a black can looking thing. Can anybody tell me what that is because it is cracked. It is located right in front of the guard that is in front of the tire

That black plastic piece isn't important. It is just a filler piece for where the intercooler goes on a turbo model.

Oh ok well i guess that is good. It looked important because it had 2 mini hoses connecting to something to the left of it.

Actually if it has hoses I wonder if it might be a purge canister? Any takers??

The canister is plastic and we looked closely and saw some kind of green foam padding or something that would be on the inside of the canister.

Does the canister have 2 hoses and another in between them that is capped off (terminated)? If it does this is your EVAP canister. Part of the emmissions system for venting fuel vapors. If not I am not sure...

He is talking ahout the black plastic box in front of the passenger wheel! This part is just an empty box where on a turbo car the intercooler would normally be. Its hooked into the intake piping for what? I have no idea I removed it and the hose leading up to the intake can, now i got airflow right to my airfilter, remove it its a good thing


The charcole canistor is located under the battery, and has 2 vaccum lines hooked to it

Really? I never saw 2 vacuum lines running from mine? Maybe just a n/t thing...

The air duct that appears on all 1G's turbo or not (2G T's too) is only to bring cool air into the intake area. On turbos it leads to the IC, and on n/t I dont think its very functional.

Right, but this guy might be a little confused about what to call in front of the wheel. When my friend and I were removing his tranny, we said the tranny mount was right in front of the wheel...just a figure of speech. It sounds to me like he's talking about the charcoal canister that got knocked loose in the wreck, maybe some pics would help.

I think he is talking about the black box routed to the intake piping. On my NT there's no hoses running to it, just the little black plastic tube that attaches to the air can. I say hack the air can, remove the black box and be done with it all. Better airflow

If he did break the charcole canistor then ouch, ya i think ya need that, because I dont think theres a diagram on how to get rid of emissions on a NT car. I've looked over on how to remove the emissions on a turbo car, (Thanks Martin)) but its completely different on a NT
