Engine/turbo/tranny ... something's cutting out

first things first: I drive a 95 talon tsi FWD automatic with 141k miles on it. the only engine mods i've done are new intercooler piping, greddy type s bov, and a cone air filter. along with autometer turbo and oil pres. gauges.

anyway, tonight i was at this light, (with 2 other people in my car) next to some pizza boy in an older malibu or something. it was obvious that he wanted to race, so we both jumped off the line when the light turned... almost right away my car seemed to jump around a bit, but i'm assuming my tires were spinning and hopping around since it was so soon.

then, when the car was shifting into 3rd, it started like sputtering or something, the car acted like it was about to die. so i let off of the gas a bit and it was fine. i still beat the dude, but just barely.. i should have creamed him.

it sorta scared me, something was definitely cutting out, but i have NO idea what it could be.

i realize this is sort of described in newbie fashion, but i dont know how else to explain it, and i really have no clue what was going on.

any suggestions or pointers to get me started on diagnosing this would be really helpful.

it sounds like wheel hope that i get on my 5 spd, but then again its an automatic....

do a compresosn test first of all, u should with any eng that old......

second if it was bucking it sounds like a boost leak..
