i have searched and found nothing. I am buying a 95 tsi awd. It had jumped the timming, so the existying owner put a new head and blah blah. It ran good for about a week, when he was giving it the gas, it slowley slowed down, and now it starts and runs, but it obly revs to like 2000 rpm. What could this be? Please any help would be appriciated

I am not to sure how to check for a boost leak>>>>?? Please explain , thank you:thumb:

I suggest you don't buy the car in hopes of debugging it. If major repair work was done & then it only ran good for a week, then it needs to go back to the same shop. It sounds like something wasn't tightened down or otherwise installed improperly & could well be a boost leak from a hose clamp that was either not tightened or overtightened & now the screw slips. On the other hand, countless possibilitites, since a lot of stuff has to be removed & then re-installed to get access to replace the head & the blah-blah. They should be able to find the problem, it might not be related to the work they've done, such as a partially clogged fuel filter, but at least you'll get free diagnostics & then you might decide to fix the problem yourself if it's not something they worked on.
Recently, I rebuilt the carb on my friends 69 skylark, car started & ran great-then later the same day, the car died & wouldn't restart, so naturally you would guess the carb wasn't right, but as it turned out the culprit was the cap & rotor. Wisely he had these parts in the trunk, as I had given him a long gopher list when he fetched the carb kit.

Is the check engine light on? Does it have a very low and choppy idle?? I had the same problem once, and believe it or not, but it was a very simple fix. The wire harness for my MAS came unplugged enough to not have an connection, but I couldn't even notice it by looking at it.

The ce is not on. I rode in the car about a weekago, so i know it ran. He wants 700.00 for it but i am going to talk him down to 500.00, can't beat that. When i go see it tommorw i will check for the loose mas and all clamps. Any other sugeestions?

Wow, hopfully that is it. I will check it you t today. If it is the problem i will feel bad because i am going to steal the car for 500.00 not bad for a tsi awd. I will let you guys know later today when i look into it. Thank you.

I went to see the car again in the light. It is a 95 tsi awd 5sp with 125k. Upon start up it makes loud banging noise, then quites down. It blows white smoke. When reving it, the bov makes no noise what so ever, not evan a lil peep. The kid said he downshiffted to gain speed, then 5 mins later the rpms dropped and now the car wont go past 4k rpm. I am thinking it has something to do with the ic, turbo, or bov. Should i buy it for 500.00 and hope it can be fixed? because i dont have immidate access to a lift or jack (car is in junkyard, in mud) so i really can't see under the car. Also the timing belt was replaced 2 weeks before the incident..Any suggetstions? :|

There's a good chance that's the problem. How good is the person/mechanic that replaces the timing belt?? I had a buddy that took his Laser AWD Turbo in to have the timing belt replaced and they messed up his timing so bad that the motor blew up 3 days after. They bought and installed a new motor.....

So true, they are such a biatch. If thats the case, you better tow it home b/c chances are you will blow it going home and bend up your valves. I remember when my T belt was done and we didnt do it right. Very choppy idle, hesitation, and wouldnt run what so ever. We got lucky and ended up lugging it to a shop to fix our mistake which was the tensioner was not 180 degrees. Easy fix, but everything needs to be taken apart.

So, is it worth buying for 500.00? Also would the tbe t belt have something to do with the bov not making any noise?

YES, worst case senario the motor goes, a 6 bolt is cheap. A 6 bolted AWD talon? Come on now.

As far as the bov noise, im not sure. If you are getting hesitation, i would assume it would cause the turbo to not be able to build boost properly which in turn would make the bov silent. And if its all stock, that bov isnt going to make noise anyway.

Yeah I would pay $500 for it. Try your best to save the current motor, but is she goes, then like 96TSi_Chris said, 6-bolts are reasonably priced. In the DSM world, it doesnt get any better than an AWD 6-bolt. Go for it! :thumb:

One more thing. The car has 125k on it and it showed no signs of cw about 2 weeks ago, now when you start it it makes a loud knock noise for about 2 mins then goes away, could all this be related to cw?

Be more specific, but even after you do, i doubt it. Its highly overrated, seems like every noise someone hears on this site, it turns into a "is this CW" thread (not you, i understand this cars got probs)
