Okay. I have a 91 Mitsu Eclipse 1.8L with a little problem. At first it didn't even respond to my turning the key. No crank, click, nothing. So we replaced the starter, plugs, wires, battery, and it still won't start. It cranks till the sun goes down but won't turn over. The plugs are firing and everything checked out, so I figured it was the fuel pump. I researched a little about it and I found out that it might be the inline fuel pressure regulator. I don't know alot about it, so does anyone know exactly what is causing my problems? Does anyone have a pic of the fuel pressure reg so I can find it? How do I tell which is causing the problem? My stepdad climbed underneath the car the gas tank and he says he can't hear the fuel pump running when the car cranks over. We can hear a noise from the injectors so I figured they're fine but still no gas is even getting to them. If anyone can help me out a little it would be great. I hope it's not the fuel pump because the cheapest one I've priced is $380 with the screen. I haven't priced a fuel reg yet... PLEASE HELP ME!

The regulator is on the fuel rail. It looks like hat with a nipple coming off it, and a rubber hose is connected to it. I dont think that is the problem. You may want to see if you are throwing any CELs (check engine light). Maybe a harness is off, maybe your cam angle sensor died...who knows.

No check engine lights. Everything works great, it just won't start. How can I tell if the fuel pressure regulator is working or not? All that runs out of it is a fuel line, and it's shaped like a hat with a nipple, okay... Well, we'll see if that's it...

You need a fuel pressure and a vacuum gauge to properly diagnose your fuel pressure regulator. First check that you have fuel pressure, should be about 38psi. If you don't have fuel pressure, replace your fuel pump, ExtremeMotorsports still has some used pumps for sale for like $35.

So if the pump isn't working I get no reading but if I get a reading what do I look for next??? What is causing all my troubles if it isn't the pump or the regulator?

If your fuel pressure is less than 37psi, your fuel pump is bad. If you have no fuel pressure at all and you can't hear the pump running, then perhaps the pump isn't getting power. There is a check terminal located under the hood directly behind the battery, it's taped to the firewall. Try running a jumper wire from the positive battery terminal to this check terminal. This will directly energize the fuel pump. If you still can't hear the pump running, check for voltage at the fuel pump electrical connection, and at the EFI relay, which is located in your center console, under the radio and ECU.

Is there any way I can get at the relay and see if it's okay without ripping apart the dash? Or can it not be reached without taking it apart. I had found a Walbro 255 lph pump for $95 so I was gonna get that but I didn't want to buy a fuel pump if that wasn't my problem.
