Ok, i know i have been talking about the idle surge problem thinking it was why my car was runnning crappy, but last night i was in my garage, started my car (sounding funny but running and idleing steady for once) i decided to start pulling off plug wires. pull off number 4 cyl wire (looking down at engine far left) car dies, put it back on , Pull of #3 car runs the exact same as if it were on #2 off car runs the same, #1 off car dies. Now from what i have read this car has 2 coil packs right? could one of them be bad ? or is my problem much worse.. like a bent valve or something ? please help me out
BTW: when i had the two middle wires pulled off and the car was running the same the wire were still sparking so i dont know if it would be coil packs or not:talon:

it does it all the time... has about 4000 miles on it after rebuil from a thrown rod... could it be bent valve? or just coil pack?

no

you never want to see 0. i was thinking it could just be your coil pack since cylinders 2 and 3 are on the same coil, but with a 0 compression reading in one cylinder and a 20 in the other i'd point my finger there as far as why its not running right. did you use new rings when you rebuilt it?

Did you put rings in when you built it!? JK. Pull the valve cover and see if the rockers have any clearance or wiggle under the cam lobes. If so, bent valves, if not, you're going to have to keep digging.

By digging you mean taking off the head... those stupid people that built that engine, i could kill them they reused exhaust gaskets TB gaskets im guessing a head gasket haha stupid a$$es. well i just got off the phone witht he shop and they said yea sousnds like a blown head gasket but they want 800 bucks to fix it should i spend the money or do it myself??

There should be oil in your coolant if thats the case. If they reused the gaskets then you might be able to get something out of them because it's standard procedure to replace them when you take things apart. As far as doing it yourself...that consists of taking off everything connecting the head to the car and to the engine. If youve never done it before Id suggest reading up on things like reinstalling the t-belt, etc.

yea i have the manual would it walk me through it well enough to just go for it? i mean dont mean to blow my own horn but im not an idiot... haha but i really dont have the money for the shop to do it

Go for it. It's not that it's difficult. It's just a pain in the ass. You could do it in a day.
