Yesterday my car had no pulling power for most of the day. It made a loud squeak type noise whenever I applied the throttle. Then I heard something brake/pop and my car couldn't get past 15 mph in any gear. I popped the hood and everything around the intake manifold was shaking and making a very raw noise. The shop that looked at it briefly today said it is something seriously wrong w/ the internals like a collapsed lifter or something with the rod arm(??) or something. Either way they're taking of the valve cover to take a better look. Anyone have any idea what it could be? and if it is worth fixing? btw about 140,000 miles on the engine. Thanks in advance for any replies, the thought of having to buy a new car is making me sick.

Turns out it was my timing belt that skipped. I just got off the phone w/ the mechanic and he said another belt broke and took the timing w/ it, I'm going retarded as we speak and can't remember the name.No bent valves or anything though. My idle pulleys are being replaced as well as a cv boot (both of which I knew needed replacing). The guy I bought the car off of last august insisted that he replaced the timing belt and had papers to prove it, however, the shop replacing it says only the water pump was replaced. Is there anything I can do about this?

He may well have replaced the timing belt, but not the balance belt, hydraulic tensioner or idler pulleys--just to save a few bucks because he was planning to sell the car anyway, or maybe the shop charged him for those things, but "forgot" to renew or at least 100 other possible scenarios--you may never be able to find out & it really doesn't matter.
More importantly, when you're having it done this time, don't skimp on parts & get the warranty in writing--it's usually on the back of the reciept--make sure every part that was replaced is listed.
Try to remain on a freindly basis with the previous owner, it's prolly not his fault & you may need to ask him more questions about other stuff on the car in the future.
