all right, first i thought it was the alternator but i kinda crossed that out. Then after posting, i think its a fuel problem and i still do, but my mechanic somehow thinks that this is a ecu problem, and its really pissing me off, and making me think hes a total idiot becuz he told me it was my ecu then told me it was going to take him a couple of hours to test my ecu codes. Anyways, back to the point my car is stalling when i'm sitting at a redlight or idling. Then after i let it sit for a while it starts back up, and depending on how long i let it sit is how far it goes. I posted and got a response saying it was a fuel problem and most likely a clogged fuel filter which makes a lot of since, but the car was already at the mechanic so i didnt get a chance to even check it, and now hes telling me its the ecu and i was wondering if theres anyway that my problem could be a problem with my ecu. Thanks and sorry to keep posting, but my mechanic is really pissing me off and i just need to vent.

take the car to auto zone and hook up the odbII code scanner they will let u use it for free, then get on the internet and seach for "odbii error codes list" and that should tell you whats not working right

Do do you get a CEL light? It wouldn't make sense to get it tested without a error light. Could be leaky caps but that involves going inside the computer and visually inspecting them. Not to sound mean or anything, but your mechanic sounds kind of dumb LOL. Where are you getting this done at? If you keep the idle up will it still stall? Is your timing okay? Fuel sounds like a possibility, but I would hook up a gauge tester to it first. Have you pressure tested your intake system? That would help reveal boost leaks/vacuum leaks that might cause your stalling problem. What does the car idle at normally? Does it just up and stall? Rev at all before stall? Keep us updated and good luck!

NO i totally agree with you that my mechanic is an idiot. It's not really mine its my moms. I havent found a good mechanic within an hour of me yet. My last one couldnt tell that i only had half a harmonizer belt after i took it in 3 times for broken alt/util belts and they couldnt tell me that I had jumped timing and bent valves even though I had no compression in any of my cylinders. Then the other mechanic i took it too is just dumb, and this one is dumb too, and i dont have time to work on my car myself that much, but anyways on to the point. I dont get a cel when the car is actually running but when i turn just the electronics on in the car but I dont turn it over the cel blinks on and off, but as soon as the car turns over again it goes off, and it doesnt matter how high I keep the idle up it still stalls, and the timing should be right cuz i just had a new engine put in and i've been driving it for around 2000 miles, but i havent personally checked so i dont know it could be, and my car idles at around 9-1100, and it doesnt rev at all it just goes out, and how can i do a pressure check on my intake sytsem. Sorry i've been on here for a while, and i kinda know what i'm doin I just havent had the time do much hands on work like i'd like to, but if i sound like an idiot i'm sorry LOL i'm tryin.

My car kinda does the same thing if it is cold. I thought it was my throttle body sticking or my fuel injectors not working, maybe it is my fuel pump, or filter.. time to add that to the list...also I would like to see how this thread goes to see what the promblem is. It my be my promblem too..

In your post, you say that your car stalls when sitting at a stop sign or idling. However, after setting for a while it is OK. Does the car start back up after stalling or does it require some time before it will even start again? If it starts back up imediately, it may be a bad ISC servo. However, if it will not even restart it is probably something else.

It takes some time. The first time when i was in i tried starting it like 3 times then some guys came and helped me push it out of the way after about 10 minutes of it sitting there. I was just about to get out of the car and go back to my soccer practice with my mom and i tried one more time and it started right up. Then i drove it about a mile down the road maybe less and got stuck at a red light and it stalled again. So i came back later that night with my mom around 730(it was about 330 when the car stalled the first time) and it was at a gas station. My mom wanted to drive the car so i could stay behind her and she drove about 10 miles to the street the mechanic was on and it died at a redlight. Then the mechanic said he ran it for 15 mins and it never stalled. Sooo i hope that helps.

Dragon talon, Yeah its around freezing in the morning and at nights, but it started stallin in the afternoon when its in the 50s. Thats kinda cold but not extreme, and have you checked you throttle body or any of your fuel components yet?

oh yeah, is there anyway that i could get a ecu code error right after the car stalled but not while it was running fine?

Well the mechanic said that the ecu was bad. He said something along the lines that the ecu would get hot quit working then when it cooled down it would start working again. Is this a reasonable explanation or should I look at something else, and if it is how hard is it to put in a new ecu? thanks

hey man. my buddy has the same problem with his and he is a mechanic. hopefully he is better than yours. LOL. anyways, he tested the computer and it was fine, but he also tested the ASO (automatic shut off) and said it was bad. his car has the same symptoms as your car. it is located between your head unit and ECU. hope this helps.

Your mechanic sounds like he knows what he is talking about, and you have no idea what you are talking about.

It could be one of two things:
1) Your ISC as someone suggested(If you have one)
2) Your ECU

Swap the ECU out with a friends or something and see what happens. Changing an ECU is easy as unplugging a light from an outlet and plugging a new one in...

My car has the same problem, i thought it cwas coming from the fuel pump relay, but i changed that, so the ASO can be where the clicking sound i s coimng from. BEcause when it stalls i start it up, i hear a click sound and the engine just dies.

yeah thanks everyone i'll get all those checked out and sorry to keep draggin this out just frusturated but thanks

well i figure that if your ecu is bad, your car would not run at all. I thought the stalling, bad idleing in my car was from not warming up the car enough before i drove it. it seems like in mornings or mid-day in the heat or cold i start my car and just drive it without at least a 5 min. warm up, and that is when my engine starts to idle bad and the engine light comes on. when it does that i stop my car and restart it and it is fine. except for 1 time when it kept stalling up. I thought it was a fuel promblem, but i have had a fuel cleaning flush, new fuel filter put in and throttle body clean all the time. i also run premium fuel from chevron. I also thought it might be because the oil lines and water are not curculating right intill it warms up.Also a question for all of you. can you do a engine dionastic right after the promblem accures and you turn off your engine. please fill me in on any info. if anything comes up.

My talon is having a similar problem but my car will start right away, plus I can't rev it up pass 2 g's or it will stall

is it a turbo? Im sure your mechanic checked for vacuum leaks? Fuel fliter, fuel pressure at the rail? injector resistor pack resistance?isc coil resistance /biss crew adjustment? boost leaks? Just some things to look at I had to adjust the first go around. good luck
