The two bolts that hold the strut on, right above the brake calliper, take those off (17mm) You will need a breaker bar. Don't use a socket or the open end of a wrench, use a box wrench 17. Also, the spindle housing I think it is called, The big bolt with the kotter pin in it, right in the middle of the brake rotor, bust that off. I think it might be a 26mm. Then, the whole arm should slide toward you, thus allowing the axle to come out. You will more than likely have to use a prybar to carefully get the axle out of the transmission. It isn't fun, and it's a dirty job, but as long as you get all those bolts off, you should be able to get it out with a little elbow grease. I did both of mine in about 10 or 20 minutes the other day. I know some guys can beat that with ease, but I take my time so I don't tear stuff up. Don't try to be a He-Man, just use common sense. When you turned the wheel while driving, if you heard some clickity clickity, I would just replace the whole axle. You can get them at O'Reily's or AutoZone for less than a hundred bucks. I got my two front ones at O'Reily's. I am not sure if they are remanufactured or not, but I haven't had any problems with mine.

If you haven't done it yet, take a look at :

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/CVboots.html

You can remove the left side CV without having to pull the shaft from the transmission. No need to drain transmission. However, you will need to cut the inner boot in two in order to pull it out. As a result, you will need replace both the inner and outer boots. The above link gives you a good explanation of the procedure. I replaced both of mine since they are cheap.
