So Im really thinking about picking up a few parts and I want to do all installions by myself. I need to learn these cars and this is the perfect time.

I just bought a good amount of tools that should be capable of everything needed besides speciality tools.

Im going to be installing

Cams
Springs & Retainers
Head Studs
Head Gasket
Timing belt & componients.

But I really havn't done much more then injectors dsmlink and fuel pumps.

So Im kinda in the dark and would like some guidance from someone in the northwest.

Would anyone be willing to come down and go through this job with me?

Of course food / gas / etc would be on me.

I know there,s alot of guys up your way, so im sure someone will help, if i may id Recommend mitsujason from murderous racing he has alot of 2g knowlage.

I'd recommend having a machine shop do the springs and retainers. The rest is a cake walk if you've got a torque wrench (both 3/8" and 1/2" drive). Oh and all sorts of assembly lube for the cams.

Yeah id probably have a shop do the springs and retainers but you could pull it off yourself. There are plenty of detailed vfaqs available on the rest of your mentioned mods

Shane, you can always give me a call.

Jason and I would def. come over and give you a hand.
+1 on springs and retainers. I had Carquest in Everett swapp parts from one head to the other and they charged me $190 after tax. Mitsuman (Jason) refferred me to them, seems as they did some really clean work!

All the other stuff is pretty simple.

I've done valve seals solo with the head on the motor using the rope down the spark plug technique. Followed with the 2x4, extension, and O2 sensor socket for a spring compressor technique. It was a pain in the ass to keep the spring compressed and fish out the keepers, but I got it done.

Sence your pulling the head, it's real easy to change the springs and retainers. Labor cost 0. I used the rope trick and this valve spring compressor4g63 valve compressor - Google Product Search

Damn! That looks nice I wish they made something like that back then (2000). That would be the way to go and everyone around here would be your best friend if you let them borrow it:sneaky:

Haha, Jason will get impatient.

I like to take my time, do one thing at a time and make sure Im right.

Jason likes to make 500 projects at once and kinda just get through everything.
Thats if your talking about VR4 Jason.

I got a couple of friends that really refer Carquest so that may be interesting.
But so may that spring tool a post above me.
