Hi, I just recently purchased a used 91' galant vr-4 and it's been nothing but bad luck. The throwout bearing has gone out and it's stalling when i depress the clutch, i'm still hoping it's not crankwalk, but seeing how things have gone lately, it probably is.

I was wondering if anyone in the area would be willing to help diagnose what needs to be fixed with the car, or if anyone knows of a good shop in the area that could do a checkup for cheap.

I was considering taking it to PINA, but everyone seems to agree that they're very costly, and as it stands i just don't have a lot of money to spend...

Any recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated as i've been worrying over the car for weeks now.

thanks again, cheers.

I've usually had really good results from Pina and I never thought it was too expensive.
When the rear diff went out on my 90 (3-bolt) they upgraded the diff and rear axles to a 4-bolt setup from a later year - parts and labor installed all for $400. That's cheap dude.
One time Andre put new capacitors in the ECM - took it out of the car, replaced the caps, put it back in the car, for $20, while I was standing there watching and taking pictures! Try that anywhere else.
If you want to know what rip-off is, take your car to someplace that barely even knows what a mitsubishi is, like Mark the Mechanic or Greg's. They'll charge you up the butt and do a crappy job besides.

Hey I doubt you have crank-walk. Your car is a 91? If it has the original engine it would be a 6-bolt engine. Those are the ones everybody wants and they almost never get crank walk. They were only made from 1989 thru 1992.5 or thereabouts.

thanks for all the great replies guys, i actually ended up bumming garage space from a family friend and swapping out the clutch myself (with his help ofcourse) turns out the tob ate itself into the spindles/fingers of the pressure plate, shit was all fused together, haha.

anyhow cars back up and running for now. and with it a new question.

this is probably a stupid one, but i figured i'd ask since i really don't know where to look.

Does anyone know of a good muffler shop i can take my car to, to install a downpipe, catback + new cat?

the reason i'm asking is because i have a 1g catback, which works with my galant vr-4, but i need some extra piping added in, since my cars a tad bit longer. So i'm guessing it's probably an easy job for a shop, but i wasn't sure where to look, so i figured i'd ask.

hope no1 minds.

thanks again for all the help

pina motorsport in kent will take care of any of your Exhaust needs, he works on alot of galants, just give him a call and ask. if you need more info message me.

Whatever you decide to do, absolutely do not go to Pina! They overcharge you with subpar work! My rebuilt transmission didn't even last me 2 years! On top of that they charged my friend $10,000 to for an engine and manual transmission swap. Obviously he's not my friend anymore.

10g's I hardly doubt that, you can buy a used mitsu with very little miles for that price, unless the engine and tranny were fully built.
