Bad ball joints that fail on you are no fun.

*In researching I found out that there was a recall on some eclipse ball joint assemblies. Anybody know how to approach Mitsubishi about servicing an old recall such as this one?

Sorry that happened the way it happened. :(

But there has been many cases of your situation happening to others in other threads. I believe people tried to sue or have Mitsubishi fix the damage the defective ball joints caused, but to no avail. You can call a Mitsubishi dealership and give them your VIN to see if your car has already been in for service.

If your car has been in once, they won't accept you another time. (doesn't make sense to not fix a car for defective parts only to have the same part fail.)

Good luck with your repairs, for I know the side skirt area are going to be a PITA to fix.
 
Hell yeah it does, but I won't let this bucking bronco kick me off. Just have to get this bs handled and I can resume punking m3's, vettes, and sti's for their lunch money.
 
damn bro.. that blows.. i might have a side skirt that goes on the door panel. its a 95-96... just incase u dont care about matching for right now..
 
Actually just got a reply from Mitsubishi in San Jose. They said that my car already had the recall service performed. Well either they are lying, or the previous tech was an idiot and messed it up. Obviously something is not right here.
 
Actually, there have been many a posts on here where the new ball joints fail the same way as the faulty ones. Seems like Mitsubishi just took the cache of bad ball joints in a warehouse somewhere and installed them again just to get the NHTSA to shut up.
 
If i remember correctly, there is a 2g in pick and pull down at monterey area. It is red and there is also awd talon. Yeah, never dealinng wih capitol mitsubishi. Have you ever call other mitsu dealer? Worth a try.
 
I haven't had time to make it to a pick n pull for this yet since it happened last night and I've been at work, but I'll definitely look into that one.

As for Mitsubishi, I got a number direct for the service department to call tomorrow instead of the sales rep I dealt with today. If it doesn't work at that dealer I will probably try others. No sense rolling over and playing dead right?
 
Yikes that sux, did the arm have a mitsubishi sticker/tag around it? I remember when mine was replaced on my RS it had one. My GST I have no clue on that one cars got 200k+ on it I should look into replacing mine WTF!!'

Anyone know if the aftermarket ones are any good? Whenever I went to look for a rear lower control arm they kept on giving me the front one so I know there's quite a number of them out there.

I think everyone should jack their cars up and inspect the boots around the ball joints themselves. It takes 5 minutes to potentially save your cars life. Had I known this was even an issue, I would've had these replaced the first day I got the car. The dealership says that mine were replaced at 36k miles and I am at 125k now. So less than 100k miles on these and they failed. I would say that you are due.

One symptom that my brain just connected the dots on is that my steering wheel was getting stuck in position instead of returning to center after a lane change or something like that. Had a thread on it here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/handling-tech/405609-steering-wheel-doesnt-return-center.html I had previously contributed that issue to a bad ps pump, but it appears I may have been mistaken.
 
Dude this same thing happened to me like 3 months ago! Luckily I was only doing 10mph when it happened. But it uncurled the fender right where it sits above the tire, so now if I hit a bump while turning right the tire scrapes my fender. To fix the problem I just bought a new one from Autozone for like 40 bucks. I didn't think this was such a big problem on our cars.

Oh and now my power steering rack is leaking because of it. So I took off the PS belt for now and I'm driving with manual steering until I can pull one from the yard. And on top of that, my alignment is off too. Pulls slightly to the left now >:-(

You could be facing more than just a bad alignment.
