Hey guys I am from San Jose and please don't be an asshole about the question I am about to ask.

I was just wondering if anyone knows a muffler shop that makes custom exhaust piping in San Jose or anywhere close?

Are there any turbo rebuild shops around the area also?

And lastly I have a pocket PC and I see that the data loggers are the same thing, what can I do to turn this PPC into a data logger because it really is only laying around my house useless.

I had my "flexpipe back" exhaust donw for $70 in belmont california, its probably half way between SF and San Jose. It was 3" pressbent and its not too shabby (for $70 that is) If you are more interested, i'll dig up the business card and let you know the information, but im sure there is something closer to SJ for ya. YOu have to be good a haggling at this spot, i got her down from like $150 haha!!!

Ha, no website, just a regular muffler shop, one of the only few i could find that had 3" exhaust done for CHEAP.

748 Old County Road
Belmont, CA 94002
(one block north of Ralston)
(650) 593-1079
I can give pretty good directions there.
Pretty much from 101, exit Ralston, head west
You get to a stoplight, its before you go under the CALTRANS tracks, and before you cross El Camino Real on the other side of the CalTrans Tracks, there should be a wendys or some kind of fast food joint at this corner
Turn Right at this stoplight
Come to first stopsign - Continue straight
ON this next block(very long block) there will be a bunch of apartments on the right and a bunch of auto shops on the left. The muffler shop will be the last one in the middle of the block on the left, its a long shop and then 2 outside lifts on the right hand side of it where they do the exhaust work.

Thats a good price. I'm looking for 2.5" from o2 housing to flex section, then 3" after flex to 3" hf cat and 1 or 2 resonators to a cheap dual tip stock looking muffler.

Its pressbent exhaust, so i'd at least get all the important bends you need. This is what i did, i went there with a RRE "first bend" from the exhaust, D/P flange, ebay 3" highflow cat, 2.5" flex pipe, and muffler, they did the rest for $70 bucks. This lady knows me though, ive been there MANY times, and brought many cars there for her business.
The idea is to have all your parts you need, so all you really need to pay for is the piece of 3" straight pipe that they will cut and bend do spec. YOu really dont need mandrel bends from the flex pipe back (i dont) obviously its better, but not needed.
And this is where the haggling comes in, you have to confuse this lady. She is an asian lady that runs the shop and has two guys welding for her. One chinese guy named Lee, he's pretty good, and another mexican guy, i forget his name, but he's not as skilled as Lee.
When you get there, confuse the lady, tell her that you race the car at the track and your buddy with the same car comes here all the time and recommended the spot, tell her need to get it up there to the track for a big race this weekend and start telling her useless information about the trim of your exhaust wheel and that you have a 2" drop on the car and the 24.52 slicks to put on there and bla bla bla...she wont know what ## talking about, and she will look at you puzzled, then you say so is $50 bucks sound good? then she'll say no and then work your way up to like $70-100, she should do it, If you get out of there for $150 or less you should be good. She did a catback on my buddies car for him for like $120, because he wasnt the best haggler, i told him i could get it for less than $100 and he thought he could... anyways. Dont pay more than $150, well pay what you want, but you really can get this lady for cheap!! haha me and my friends all used to go in there to see who could get theirs done for cheap. My buddy won, he got her to do an exhaust for like $50 one time. Thats only if you have your own parts, if you buy their flexpipes, gaskets, CAT, muffler, flanges then it will ADD UP FAST!!!

hope this helps you guys, by no means is this the best exhaust shop in the world, but if you need a cheap pressbent 3" exhaust, thats what you will get, mine works fine!

PS... on occasion, if you really prove (convince) this lady that this is a "track only" car, and how this is the first time that you brought the car on the street, just to get the exhaust made for that race you have coming up...remember... she might even cut the cat off for ya... but you didnt hear that from me... ;) :sneaky:

Oh wow. I didn't realize you got the whole system for 70 bucks! I thought you said 70 bucks for a flex pipe. But yeah, I am probably going to go down there and ask to make a 3" cat-back? Hopefully for the same price up or down a little more.

Another question, do they put it on the car for you or you do your self?

Haha!! that was the system that we used... worked every time... it was halarious too.

No, they make the piping on the car for ya, if you want to go the real cheap route (like i did) they wont use any flanges, they will just weld the pipe together in one big piece.
You kind of have to be right there and make them make it the way you want, when he did my exhaust, he was trying to hide the midsection up next to the driveshaft (this was my "track only exhaust" ;) :shhh: ) so he was trying to have the piping kind of tucked away and hidden, so there were extra bends in the system. Id make sure that he keeps that part after the cat as straight as possible for as long as possible.

don't get press bends...that's ghetto. it will only hurt you in the long run. do things right once

if you owned a shop and someone called to get a price quote, wouldnt you start at a high #? I would...

YOu should have said 160? XXX muffler shop said they would do it for $80, you guys cant beat that, then the guy would have been like ok $100 installed. and you would have had a good deal.

You guys need to learn how to haggle. ITs all about who can bullshit the best haha

Yea you gave em a heads up now, and might ruin other people's chances. :(

The quote you got from speedee muffler, what does that include?

It was just for the 3 inch piping from cat-back minus a tip and a resonator is 75 on top of everything.

I'll call on another phone and haggle, I thought you only haggle at flea markets! HAHAHA!

If your gonna haggle, do it in person, and when you know you are ready to make the deal then and there. If you do it over the phone, when you get there, they can play stupid.

That price from speedee muffler is too pricey if its just a catback minus a tip and resonator. You can get a 3" apexi n1 style muffler catback stainless steel with 2 resonators, for ~$200 shipped on ebay. I've personally installed and inspected one. Great for the price, and has been holding up real well. There is a neck down where it connects to the cat/downpipe, but only to 2.75". Really .25" going to make a drastic difference?

I base my exhaust shopping on that. If I'm going to pay X amount it better be a better deal than EBAY. I would pass on that speedee muffler deal unless its a FULL TURBOBACK.

Go to the chinese lady that Danny mentioned, and haggle then and there, dont call.

Oh yes yes yes true true. I was thinking. If I am going to buy a tip then piping, it is going to be about couple more bucks for a set off ebay possibly a TSUDO or whatever and those are turbo back. We will see guys!

Yes, haggling is only good in person!!!

IT helps to have like $100 in your pocked if worst comes to worst and pull it out and say..."this is all ive got, can you work with me?"
That one works at the giants game all the time for scalping tickets, have like $20 in your wallet and the rest of your money for food and drinks in your pocket, pull out your wallet for the scalper and say this is all ive got...they wont deny you if they really think thats all the cash, why wouldnt they want it? something is always better than nothing.

When you called country auto muffler was it a guy or a lady that answered? If its a guy then you might have to work a different scheme, but if you go there and there is a lady working with 2 welders you should be good. THe earlier in the day the better.

haha...man after reading this post i really am a true dsm'r.... a cheap bastard

Honestly though man, if i were going to do it again... id just order a dejon exhaust or something, its mandrel bent, it has flanges for everything, including the cat so you can swap it out, all the angles are correct, you wont have restrictive wierd pressbends, and the people have put in R&D to get everything to fit correctly. Getting an exhaust made for your car on your car is good too, but this spot isnt the cleanest or best spots (not for under $100, im sure if you dropped a lot of $$$ you could get them to do a great job if you brought in all the bends you needed) not trying to hate on my own spot, all my welds have stayed together for like 3 years now and ive had no probelms with the exhaust, its all what you want from the car, if you are going to be running 13's or slower, this spot will be fine, but if you want to be like unlmtdndeavor and run a 3052 or something and have all other proper mods on your car, do it once, do it right and buy a mandrel bend exhaust from a reputable dsm shop

i wouldn't recommend the dejon stuff to anyone. i personally don't think their quality is that good. i used to have a press bent apexi style exhaust on my laser. the talon had a press bent magnaflow on it. by far the best flowing exhaust has been the one that was made at FFTEC. sean built me a 3.5" mandrel bent o2-back. i've also seen the custom o2 housings and full downpipes.

would anyone be interested in stainless tubular o2 housings? either recirculated or dumped?

If you posted that earlier, I would of asked my friend bidding on one on ebay right now!
