Hi All! I just wanted to let you know that I'll be going out to Sacramento Raceway tomorow, Wed the 14th for their season opener for Wed Night Fun Drags. Is anyone else going?

I'm taking my FWD Laser daily driver. It has a 16g and mild mods, nothing crazy. I just want to see what it'll run and get an idea of the power it's putting out. I just hope the weather holds up. :)

good luck! id be right there with ya but im having wastegate issues. Once i install my new external i'll be down to roll to a couple wednesday nights either at sac or infineon.

OK so my best run was 14.1 @106mph. The track was slow tonight. The weather was damp and humid, the track had plenty of sticky VHT on it, which stuck to the tires. The return lane and staging lanes had plenty of gravel on them, which stuck to the VHT covered tires. After my first run my tires looked like donuts with sprinkles on them!

MMMM....Donuts! drool
Yeah, traction was bad. I never spun in 3rd gear before, but I did tonight and it's not like I was making big power.
Attendance was low, so I got 5 runs and left before 8PM.
Do they sweep the return lane at Infineon? Just wondering :)::

if they do, they dont have any vht on the track.... damn infineon track prep!!! ::shakes fist::

nice runs though. Are you still on your project mpg tune? how many lbs of boost were you running?

Yep, still on the mpg tune, tho I did lower tire pressure all the way down to 30psi at the track. Still on 91 octane too. The boost is set to 20psi. I tried raising it to 22psi for one run but it knocked too much, so I turned it back down. I filled up the tank on the way home and checked my mileage. Even with 5 runs at WOT I got 38.8mpg out of that tank. :)

damn you dave and your lean burn! (and grandma-like driving)

The best ive got out of my new motor with no fuel tuning in dsmlink (everything zeroed) was 23mpg.....

my wastegate came yesterday, i just have to wait for my o2 weld up kit and gaskets and i'll have my car boosting and ready for the infineon opener. (that is if my wastegate is the problem) if not then i'll have a nice new external wastegate setup and a turbo that wont boost.

I hope you make it out. Good luck with your car.

I can't wait for Infineon to open. I'm bringing the Talon out the first chance I get. I hit 125mph last time and now it's tuned better. I hope to go faster than 130. If I do they might kick me out for not having a roll cage. It should be fun!

Yeah we have to see how fast you can get youself kicked out.

Do you plan to throw a cage in your car this season? Or are you going to be on the most kicked out list at the infineon wednesday night drags?

I'd like to hear what you've done to be getting close to 40 MPG with one of our cars! Care to elaborate?

Close to 40mpg? heh heh
www.gassavers.org/garage/viewgaslog/207?
That's my car, a 1990 Laser turbo. In short it's a lightweight FWD car with TRE's taller 5th gear. I also have an eprom ecu that I've tweaked in almost every way imaginable.
Yeah I drive like a granny most of the time, but it's a boring commute everyday on a crowded freeway, so it's not like I'm going to get to work faster by going WOT for ten feet. Plus I've picked up some advanced driving techniques for improving fuel efficiency (FE). It helps make the commute less boring.

I might, I'm just having trouble coming up with something worthwhile to say other than 'drive slow and become an expert eprom tuner.'

Yeah, tailor it to those who already know how to work with EPROMS and go from there :)

You should make a tech article!

OK! It's here. I wrote a tech article two weeks ago but it didn't show up until now. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254223 Let me know what you think, or if something is unclear.

I didn't include anything about custom tuning your own eproms since it's a very large topic, and most of it is covered on the DSM-ECU list.
Sorry to say this, but if you want to know about tuning for better mpg there is plenty of info at dsm-ecu.com. Specifically you should search for 'lean burn' and 'lean burn addition' and follow the topics all the way through. Yes it's a lot of reading, but it's all very informative. Enjoy!

nice read. Ive done some of those techniques while driving, but didnt know that they were saving me gas, now i'll have to be more conscious about them and try to work them in more often.

thanks for the write up!

OK a question, I live 15miles from the track and in the rest of the fourm I have seen everything listed but tire pressures. What is a good happy starting point. Needless to say AWD with street radials.

Thanks
Kim

street radials as in dot approved drag radials? the tire pressure is going to depend on the kinda power you are making.

No street radials as in daly driver type and will know more about the power it is making at the end of the day.
