Hey guys, I need to smog my car soon and need a high flow catalytic converter or a normal cat to pass smog. Does anyone know a place where I can get one in the Sacramento bay area? I've heard of Muffler Tech in Sac, but not much experience with them. Any other suggestions for exhaust shops? What is the price for catalytic converters these days? Thanks for the help in advance.

I know a place in SF that will be glad to help you out. Its call Golden Auto Mufflers on 6th and folsom. I do all my muffler work there. I dont think they got high flow cats but they have ones that would replace stock ones. Ask for Mike he will do everything he can for ya.

How much would Golden Auto Mufflers charge me to install a high flow cat? Greddygst, I asked local DSMers in my area for help, but so far nobody has offered.

I've got a stock downpipe/exhaust if you want to use it before I go back to Santa Barbara. Have you ran into any problems getting pulled over with the megan downpipe? Reason I ask is I just purchased one and am a little scared to put it on without getting a cat welded on just in case I get pulled over. What is everyone's opinions on running without one around California?

Where are you currently located, Calreef18? I'm going to be going to some bay area shops to see how much it'll cost to install a high flow cat. I use to have my stock exhaust stuff, but gave it to a friend in need and he says he can't help me so I'm stuck now. The exhaust sound isn't too loud so you won't get pulled over for that. I do want to get a cat on ASAP, but money is tight right now.

I like to recommend West Coast Muffler in Concord. They just put on a high flow cat for my friend's MR2 and he passed smog no problem. I've had them do a couple of exhaust jobs on different cars I've owned. They may not be super cheap, but they do good work.
