Im just wondering if anyone knows any good twisty, winding, road course type roads that are a blast to drive.

A good one is inbetween Orinda and Martinez. Its called Happy Valley Road. Heres a map of it, its a blast to drive! me and my bro went throught there one night exploring some of the back roads with a rental AWD Dodge Durango that handled like a dream.

Definitely Grizzly Peak in Berkeley... it's a favorite of motorcyclists too.

dude if your coming all the way to orinda, go to canyon. its on the other side of moraga, but its the best of the best in this area as far as I know. blind turns like a motha, just if you hear a shotgun go off, DRIVE LIKE YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE. it adds an aspect of fear because all the hicks that live there aren't even registered or something. there is no names for any of the streets, and no house numbers on any of the houses.

I think the most fun road I've ever driven was the 84 or Skyline or whatever, from Woodside to Santa Cruz. Ask Zach.

haha! mahesh my friend blew a tire on that road and almost lost it!!! sounds like he had fun.... is this the kind of fun you had ?

once i get my tranny shifting right id like to go hit some twisties and try some different shock setups on the agx's...

Hahaha, naw we had great wholesome 100 octane-fueled twisty fun with one of the cars spraying gas all over the road and cockblocking provided by a Geo Storm and a Jeep.

that would be one hell of a meet if we went out for a good spirited "drive" on some of those roads dont ya think.:D :laser: :talon: :dsm:

ya, we better have a tow truck waiting to pull my ass out of the trees! if i got a little two spirited i might wind up like this car rallying on the www.ffwdconnection.com site. Check it out the vid right at the top of the first page... thats freakin scary, i wont have nightmares from a horror film, but that vid right there sends shivers down my back!!!

ps, anyone watching mythbusters, they are doing some driving tests while driving a course before and after talking on cell phones. I was thinking that the parking lot they were doing it in was kind of familiar, and i was like oh yeahhh....infineon, then i remembered that mythbusters is set in san francisco, so it makes sense... sorry if that was super random, i havent slept much in the last few days!!!

twisties are fun!

O.O holy crap that would suck.

i've done grizzly peak with some friends before. the view from above the caldecot tunnel is worth the trip up. but that road has a lot of really tight blind turns. just gotta be careful. ive had a few friends lately who have crashed on the twisties...so i dunno, i think i might just stick to autocross. but a cruise wouldnt be too bad

yeah dude, that video is scary!!! haha, twisties are fun driving somewhat fast for me, i dont feel like i have to go ALL OUT and as fast as i can if its gonna cost me sliding off the side of the road, just driving my car without a stopsign or a stoplight in front of me on some curved roads is what im looking to do... maybe get slightly "spirited" but nothing beyond my limits

BTW, Sivad87, im feelin the lights bro... what are they/howd u do that....ehhh? care to explain?

no, thats not it, canyon isn't a real place. its like government owned or something. its like not on the map and none of the roads are listed.

wait nvm it is.... but only the main road, non of the other roads.

When I was out there I would get together with some friends and start from HWY 9 in Los Gatos/Saratoga and go up Skyline - all the way to HWY 92. There are a lot of different routes you can take once you get up to "Four Corners". You can head down to Santa Cruz from there too - great drive.

If you're really serious, you can do Mt. Hamilton road up to the observatory (starting in San Jose) and then head down the back side. The back side is where all the fun is. It'll take you all the way up to Livermore. Of course, if you live up closer to Livermore, you can always take it the opposite way and end up at the observatory. I used to organize this drive every year. It was an absolute blast. There's even a little burger joint on the back side, perfect for a lunch break. Just search this forum for Hamilton - there are sure to be some maps to show you what I'm talking about.

Hmm we might have to try and organize something for like the end of summer or something. might be a blast if everyone wants to show up and all.

I will be trying ot organize the hamilton meet this summer along with all the other great meets we just have so many. The stinson meet(greatest meet evar!!!111!1!!!!11), the fftec dyno day(the big one not hte dsm only) and the santa cruz run.

As for great driving in the bay area. Head over the skyline road area. My favorites are to head up 84(woodside road) and go from there. You can go over 9 to the back side of 84 and there are all kinds of different routes to go that way. Or you can make a left on skyline and head towards santa cruz and make a right on 9. Easily some of the most fun I have ever had driving. I would day to say that going onto the back side of 84 is probably harder than 9. It has alot of switch back turns that could do some damage do you not hit them just right. Deffinately alot of fun.

One of the best is from Canyon Rd in Moraga (no bias at all) to Skyline Blvd in Oakland. Especially at night, because you can haul ass through there, and even take the apex on the whole road because you can always see other people coming with the headlights around curves and theres never any cops.

And by the way, Canyon is a little hippy community on country land. Cool people there, but really weird. Its not a real town, just a settlement, with a whorehouse where the Oakland city officials used to hang out and a post office and schoolhouse and thats about it.
