Ok Nor Cal DSMers we gotta pull something out here.
I've been going to the EVO meets and thay are so much
fun! You guys are missing out! I've got an idea for
not only a meet but also to get a more enthusiastic
DSM moral in the bay.

Meet Idea: We should have a meet at a tuning
shop. If we contact the shop in advance, and have
enough people, they are more likely to work out some
cool deals like discount dyno tuning, raffels on some
performance parts... I have a shop in mind that I'm
going to get in contact with but I wanna know, before
I call them, if there is any interest in the bay left
or if it is a lost cause. The EVO meets even have pizza!

More DSMers involvement and more DSMers (not just people that drive a DSM and don't know):

1) I'm going to try this on my own but I'm not good with photoshop or anything so if someone can help me with this it would be great!: I want to make a flyer that has the dsmtuners.com logo on it and some cool pictures of DSMs or a DSM on it and some info on the site and meets. So POST SOME PICS you would like on it. If people could print up some flyers and keep them in their car and whenever they see a parked DSM put one under their windshield wiper I'm sure we would have some enthusiastic new members! This in turn would make some unenthusiastic existing members refuled with DSM pride.

2) When you see another DSM on the road (even a n/t w/ a girl driving) GIVE A THUMBS UP!! :thumb: People love to be complemented on their car (even girls) and will take some pride in it and other DSMs. Plus it's so easy (and friendly) to do!

I'm sure all of this will give some new life to the bay DSM scene! :dsm: :talon: :laser:

Thanks for your time!

I'd be interested in going to a meet. I finally got a job where I have the weekends off, so for me, I don't have an excuse for not going. I'd like to say I've semi-successfully held two meets a long time ago (a Friday night at Q-Cup and a Santana Row one), and it seems that we can't organize on having a meet for everyone to go to. I know this has already been discussd before, but I'd like to try have meets again. I can only think of Zach (98eclipseRS) as one of the only guys who takes it upon himself to organize a meet, and the lack of interest probably makes him not want to plan more. So I support what you are trying to do. Heck, to get more people to go, I'll volunteer to pitch money for pizza for those who want to do this. Anybody else interested in a Bay Area meet?

I will be down for a meet once my car is out of the shop... its been in for 2 months already.... ive been going through boost withdrawls LOL.. But yea as soon as i get it back i'll let every one know...

BTW Joe i think i saw u on the road the other day... your car sounds good! i was in the "beater" and kinda far away so i didnt say hi. but yea lookin good!

I'd love to come to a meet... I had hella fun last year at Stinson and Santa Cruz, and the FFTEC meet was good too. I thumbs up every turbo DSM I see.

add one more to the coming list
pm me if this actually happens

I go to the bay like every other weekend,I work on saturdays till 4 but am free at night.Been wanting to check out the yay area scene for a while,i just don't know where to go,I know san-jo is a nono for tuner cars,my buddy got a sr-22 there.Set it up,I will do my best to make it out.I go to the local sacdsm meets, but their kinda dead lately.

BlackAWD, what exactly do you have in mind? Time/Place/Date? I'm in San Jose, but I'll be willing to take a drive anywhere, maybe I can get some of the guys over here to drive with me.

Yeah man im down to go if its not too far away. Ive been aching for a real meet where there is acctually some comradery.... it was lacking when that last big de anza meet that i went to happend.

I see DSM's around alot. Mostly around De Anza college and no one seems to be friendly..... cept this one blitz kitted White Eclipse.

Anyways, if something is going down, hit me up.

I feel the same way except I haven't had my car for 3 weeks. Damn this 6 bolt doesn't want to work in my car!

Joe I think this is a great idea, I would still be trying to plan monthly meets like before but like you said lack of interest and a busy schedule and its not worth it. I don't know what you have in mind but pm me and we can throw back and forth some ideas. I would really like to have dsm meets like they used to be two-three years ago where we actually could pull a good 11-13 cars for just a regular meet. Hell the first stinson beach meet I went to there was at least 20 cars and the year after that had a huge turnout too. I don't know though this last year I plan and plan and plan and noone shows up so maybe if we could get more people interested in planning meets that would be great, that way one person wouldn't be trying to do all of it.

I am already planning the Stinson meet and the santa cruz run for this summer, and I am going to talk to Sean(owner of full function) to see if he wants to do another dyno bbq meet at the shop.

Oh and one last thing I always here this talk about my car's not ready this or that.....WELL WHO CARES!? Honestly, we drive dsms I don't expect half of our cars to be running at the same time let alone make it to a meet. Bum a ride with a friend, borrow another car, bring your beater, hell come with friends who don't own dsms. Shit, I showed up to the santana row meet in my sister lime green auto bug for christ sakes. If I can do that I better be seeing people show up on foot or unicycle or something this is getting rediculous.

Santa cruz run!that sounds like fun!they got some gourgeous twisties on 17!gotta get my suspension/brakes ready before the sumer! We moved down here from florida last year and my wifes never been to santa cruz,if you plan it,they will come...

The Santa Cruz run was fun...even for me, and I was the wussy FWD driver taking it easy at the very end. I can't wait for the Stinson Beach one, I've never went to that one yet.

Anybody else in here from San Jose? I know Eugene, Mike, and Ronnel are, anybody else?

I'm in hayward and have been wanting to check out FFTEC as well as meet some other DSMers for a while. My car is down due to bent valves but I can bring the camaro :p.

It is most deffinately a fun meet, up 84 across skyline and down 9 into sc. However, I would still like to see people show up to other meets. The stinson and santa cruz aren't the only meets that should have a good turnout all of them should have a good turnout. Hell alot of my friends own camaros and they have weekly meets in milpitas and they always get a good ten or so guys out there, I've been to their meets plenty of times and somethign we have 20+ people who go out to dinner comming from as far away as sac! And its on a thursday night!!! I don't see why we can't get at least 10 of us together for a monthly meet if its planned a month in advance its getting stupid.

does fftec check their email? i emailed inquiring about an ISC and if they had a greddy type r or forge bov in stock.

i know there are a good amount of dsm owners in san jose.. hell at my work we're a total of 4.. all 2gs.. all with fmics go figure.. one of em traded his gsx for a truck and a motocross bike though..

then i see a bunch on a regular basis.. not too long ago i saw a group of 1g dsms.. a pack of 3-4 if i can remember.. all turbo.. rolling around off hillsdale/capitol automall at night time..

unfortunately they just seem uninformed or uninterested

we should start off small, nothing too complicated, and doesn't involve any paying to participate (if possible).. we can't assume that since we share the same interest we are all automatically friends.. this is a dsm forum.. and a dsm meet should be about dsms.. personally i just want to see other dsms and see their setups, etc. doing some kart event or something more "intimate" i would say would scare some people into not going at all.. first it involves money that some might not posess, and second some may not be comfortable about doing things like this with complete strangers when they came for a "DSM" which the basis of the meet should be about. Until we're some kind of "CLUB" that fairly knows each other.. not to mention actually have people showing up.. then should we start planning things such as bbqs, karting, etc. as far as i see it we have nothing to begin with and jumping into what close knit groups such as norcalevo guys are doing when they have a meet for every lil thing.. we're far from that and i highly doubt we're ever gonna be close to it.. baby steps..

my .02 :)

You'll do alot better if you just call them, they have been super busy lately. I know they don't have any forge BOVs in stock but I am not posotive about the greddy type R. They can get you anything you need though at a good price since they are a registered greddy dealer.

So who in San Jose wants to hangout? If I didn't live in an apartment, I'd let people come over to hang (you know, probably to do the usual- open your hood, talk about your mods, etc). Ronnel (90RekTsi) tried to get me to go to those Wed or Fri night hangouts, but I was busy with work and school back then. Now I'm more flexible to go out after work. If anybody ever wants to hangout, just let me know. Not to sound desperate, but I'm pretty much free almost every night, when my wife hangs out with her friends, I'm stuck at my apartment, looking at this site all the time. It sucks not having a garage.

I know exactly how you feel.

I'll be working on making this site more useful for locals. But I think the first step for locals to get to know eachother around here is to put their FIRST NAME in their signature. It's pretty difficult to get to know people by their usernames.

People go to club gatherings to meet with like-minded people and to get to know others in their area who share the same love for their cars. The EVO guys have a lot of guys who have money to spend on their cars and they can afford track days and new parts. The DSMers in the bay usually have less money to spend on their cars and events. Which means they are less likely to get excited about attending events when their car is broken. That will limit the chances of success right there. We need to work on getting these guys to fix their cars.

I think one idea is to get some of the more knowledgable guys together and get them to organize some Wrench Days. Help get the less knowledgable guys' cars running. Volunteer to help a new guy and in return, you'll have a new guy who will be attending those meets you organize. The leaders in the community need to get to the tracks (and dyno) and invite people to go with them. I think if you don't get people excited about fast timeslips, high hp, and/or fun at the track, there's little for people to be interested in. These guys need to see what their cars are capable of. I saw few fast DSMs in the bay area when I lived there. I don't know exactly why, but there just weren't many people who did much with their cars. Hopefully that will change.

Let me know what I can do to help. Maybe I can contact some local shops to get them more involved with the local DSM community - have them host dyno days, bbq's, etc. But we need a few guys who will be the leaders in getting people involved and building regional pride. Since I'm not out there anymore, I can't lead the effort. But I would like to see you guys take advantage of being in Norcal. There are few places in the country that have all the aspects car enthusiasts love. Four road courses in the region, a great SCCA AutoX following, 2 drag strips, several track renting organizations, and plenty of mountain roads to enjoy. It seems you just need some people who are actually interested in driving their car, not just owning a turbocharged car for status. If you get the right people involved, it shouldn't be too difficult.

In the end, it takes some dedication and some hard work to get a locals interested. I tried to organize the yearly Mt. Hamilton drive. Hopefully there will be a new annual event to take the place of that one. I'll do what I can to help support you guys through the site. Just let me know what you need. As you can see by the Rewards Program we launched, we're trying to get people to the track to build excitement and pride in their cars. Hopefully we can offer more incentives as time goes on.

Don't worry chris we have two maybe three annual events that will be happening. The stinson meet is still going strong and in its what 4th or 5th year now?? the Santa Cruz run to replace the hamilton one because I don't know how to get to hamilton and the one time I tried with some locals we got lost all over the placeROFL and I am talking with sean to see if he would like to host a bbq(possible dyno day again this summer).
