i was looking into gettin my talon painted over. i was looking at a cheap maaco/earl scheib paint job. earl sheib is having a christmas deal on their pro2 package for only $300. i know these are cheap paint jobs..but i have seen decent results. does anyone have experience from any particular locations.

Don't go to the one in downtown San Jose if you are picky. I myself didn't expect much, but then again, you probably already know that. I just got the cheap-o paint job for now since my car was in different colors (rear end swap and wing, plus the oxidation spots), and I'm trying to save for a decent paint job later on. I'm aware I don't have an actual clear coat, I'm aware that there is some orange peel, and I'm aware that they missed a few spots (like the under part of the wing), but "for now" I'm okay with it. I'm probably going to install my newer (91?) bumper and sideskirts after I have the money to paint it over again.

Also, there is some chipping on the hood, but very minimal (in my case). You actually saw my car when we went to the Redwood City cruise a while ago, and my car is actually not a good example of a decent cheap-o paint job, so you probably have an idea of how it will turn out if you do it. Hope this helps.

P.S. Are you painting the car over because of the hood incident? Your hood popped open on you while you were driving right? Hope you and the car are okay.

your paint was already pretty decent to me. and yes, it is because of the hood incident. i have an oxidized green hood with minor rust that i picked up for $30 with hinges. the sunroof cost me $80. i still have a badly cracked windshield....ANYONY KNOW WHERE TO GET A WINDSHIELD FOR UNDER $200?? ive also got major paint cracks on my quarter panels as well as plenty of oxidation on the body.

you're saying that your paint job was a poor quality cheap paint job? should i expect a little better or worse?

I'm saying you should expect a little better if you let the guys that do it know what you want. I really didn't care much that they missed a few things (not fully spraying under the wing and stuff), I'm not one to complain because hey, it's just a cheap paint job. When I was checking out other places (cheap-o places), I noticed that some of the customers who came to pick up their finished vehicles complained about the defects and had the place redo parts of their cars.

I saw cars with better cheap-o paint jobs at the Earl Schieb in downtown San Jose when I went to get a quote on the car, but I'm not sure it's because they might have taken longer to do a somewhat better job painting them. Do you get what I mean? My paint job was just a one-day-in-and-out type thing, which I'm sure all of the cars over there are, unless you complain about all the little things you don't like about it.

got it! which paint job did you get? they have the pro2 for only $300 now and i was going to ask them to do two tone...i wonder how much more that would be and to also add a nice coat of clear on it so that i can recut it.

MAZ Upholstery in Emeryville on San Pablo Ave! My windshield was $170 installed with the tint strip yo.
