do you guys know of any shops in the central/northern cali that even knows what crank walk is and who know how to check for endplay?

My local dealership doesnt know what it is and says the only way to check is to tear down my block...retards

I simply need someone to put it on a lift and measure the endplay for me, its a 99gst so im not super worried, but i just wanted to get an idea of where i am at

do it yourself? tell them to raise the car up take the oil pan off and its easy to get to where you can check from there...

I think he actually wants too measure it, not just see if it moves.

I thought u could measure it without taking everything apart

dont people just stick something between the crank pulley and move it back and forth and measure like that?

if your car has more than 75k on it i personally wouldn't worry about it... usually happens between 40-65k when i did alot of searching on the topic before when iw as choosing between 1st gen 2nd gen...

99 are least likely to cw... 95-98 are much more likely 93 and 94 6-bolts walk less than the 99's...

6-bolts after that... but i dont think too many ppl have cw'd 6-bolts... it can happen though

That really depends on who you ask. It is common for them to happen before 75K but many happen later. Some will tell you almost every 7 bolt is in some phase of crank walk.
On the other hand if it is walking what are you going to do? You could replace bearings and hope it helps for a little while, or you take it apart and do big work. If your going to do that you might as well wait to see if it dies and do a 6 bolt or something. That is the general rout. I haven't seen an undisputed cure for crankwalk other than replacing the crank and block. It may still be worth checking though so hopefully someone local can hook you up with a DSM literate shop. You would think Mitsubishi dealerships would know a little more about CW.

Riiiight, let's try not to spread that around, ok? Mine didn't start till around 130k. That's with me buying it @50k and beating the hell outta it from then on. I had an idea mine got it, but it wasn't verified until I took the car in for the ball joint recall. The mechanic cam up to me and said, "Good news, bad news. The ball joints are in and good. But, look at this." He didn't have to say anything, he just used a pry bar between the crank pulley and block and moved it...I knew. He knew I knew. He then just offered his apologies. This was in VA, though.
