I recently upgraded from a big16 to a BR 20g, my problem is I am getting the same 1/4 mile times!! I have no boost leaks, been over everything there is to check. I have all the supporting mods for this turbo 550s, 3in exhaust, FMIC, DSMlink, etc. It seems as if there is just no air here in Utah (we are at 4500ft above sea level) to get this thing to spool quick enough at the track. I am debating on putting a 50 wet shot on to get this thing to spool. Has anyone been in this boat?

Thanks

I bought a Venom 2000 kit and have been talking to them regulary for development of a computer routine to shut the system down once our turbos are spooled up. No real progress yet, but if you talk to them they have come up with a few ways to make their control module come really close in the meantime. I haven't done the mods to support nitrous yet, so I haven't tested it though.

Why would you only spray just to spool the turbo? On a 20g I bet that thing spool in the mid 3k range. I also bet that you are in your power band the entire way down the track. You really cant spray too much lower than 4k so I don’t see the point. However if you wanted to just set it up to spray at wot I think that may work out for you. But I think that your 1k could be better spent on more supporting mods and better tuning.

I would only spray in WOT, actually, I have been finding this turbo actually does spool nice, but it loses it's power towards the end :( It seems to be maxed out at 23psi right now.

what type of gas are you running for 23 psi. You are probrably running out of fuel and its knocking and pulling timing like crazy. What do your datalogs say?

The reason I'm working the kit in my way if for road racing and autocross....neither one a sport where you can the rpms in the upper 4K all the time. I've noticed a lag problem and I'm only running a 16G. But on a drag track, I agree with your thoughts.

The SCCA wont let you run nitrous in an autox setting. I don’t think a 10lb bottle would last more than a few laps even only using it as a spool. Also you would run a big risk of upsetting the chassis mid corner when the nitrous kicked in.

When I went to Summit Point in my fwd 16g powered car I really didn’t have any problems with lag and that is a fairly tight course. At that time I was only making 270hp to the wheels. Maybe you should look a the rest of your setup first and see if there are any improvements to be made there.
