Hardware store product is not required to 100% pure they use fillers . Use window washer fluid if you gonna buy paint supply stuff. Any Race gas distributor has it . You will probably want to pick up shipping is costly .

Methanol's hygroscopic. You'll never see pure. For use in injection, it'll work just fine.

Also keep in mind there are many 'hols' that will work very similarly. Methanol, alcohol, ethanol, etc. I have been buying semi-cheap denatured alcohol and doing a 50/50 mix with distilled water. I previously used methanol and did back to back datalogs with the different 'hols' and didnt notice any difference.

Yes methanol is better, why? I dont truely know (im not a chemist) but keep in mind you have other options that will work just as good and sometimes for much less money.

And like Defiant said it is hygroscopic (really? brake fluid and A/C oil are the only automotive fluids I knew were hygroscopic), so keep it in a good container that is fully sealed so it doesnt absorb water and/or evaporate. If you have 55gals of methanol it is likely it will lose quality as time goes on because you wont be using it THAT fast. So 55gals might be overkill in the long run, even if you save cash in the beginning.

If there is any dirt racing in your area, there is a methanol supplier. Same with karting, as most 4-stroke karts run off of methanol. Ask around at either a true racing shop that deaals with circle track stuff, or an enginebuilder that does the same. I know there is a fair amount of karting in your area, so im pretty sure there are lots of sources.

v8killer, you don't need to buy 55gal drums, how much of this stuff do you really go though?

What I do is use Methyl Hydrate, Its 99% pure and cheap. I get it from the local auto parts supply chain store (canadian tire in canada).

I used to use -40deg washer fluid, but i recently switched to straight methyl hydrate and love it. I noticed next no no difference in IAT's going from the washer fluid, to the methyl hydrate.

I get mine from a local muffler shop that sells race fuels. $3/gal I bought 2 gallons a month ago and have only gone through 1 gallon at this point running 100% meth on my injection. It would take a long time to go through a 55 gallon drum.

You might look into the 5 gallon drums. They would be easier to ship and if it goes bad you won't have to toss out a large quantity of it. If you find someone local that sells it, you generally have to supply the container. Make sure you label your container "METHANOL" so that people that borrow stuff from you don't mix it up with gasoline. Mine is just in a normal gas can that's labeled "METHANOL". I had a neighbor that asked for a little bit of gas for his lawnmower, so I told him "It's in the garage just go and grab it." Well, he didn't read my label on the container. Good thing I caught him in time before he poured it in there!! lol

You would spend more money on mataince of your motor. Engines that run methanol for there fuel need to be gone thru quite often.

I know as it eats away the seals and rings. My car only gets about 800 miles a year put on it, and most of those miles are to and from the dragstrip.
