Alright, after reading up in here and looking at a few other sites, I've decided nitrous is the way to go for me--relatively inexpensive, safe, and moderate hp gains. That said I have some questions, some of them will be noob-ish so bear with me--

Any differences between the maufacturers? I am gonna go with either Zex, NOS, or NX, just wondering if one kit is particularly preferred over the other??

How does the WOT switch work?-- do you arm the system, then when you hit WOT the nitrous kicks in? not 100% clear on that.

Safety on a 420a- I have a bout 133k with very little if any oil consumption, and just a minor leak, seems to be standard equipment on any DSM. The headgasket hasn't been replaced yet however, I know its impossible to tell what will happen until I actually spray, but is blowing the headgasket a common thing when using nitrous?

I am going to go with a wet kit for sure. How hard is the installation? Also what supporting mods are necessary- fuel pump?

also is a s-afc necessary??

How much does a bottle refill typically cost?

Thanks all in advance, I'm just trying to get a gauge on how much all of this will cost me, since I'm a broke ass college student I have to see if this will be feasible... :dsm:

a bottle refill ranges from $3.75 - $5.00 a pound, and the majority of bottles are ten pounds, so look to spend under $50. i pay about $44 for a full refill. depends on the prices.

wet kit installation is easy as cake. it's fun and it's really hard to screw up. takes most people about 4-6 hours, i took about 8 hours cause i was taking my sweet-ass time.

as far as brands, NX is commonly referred to as the "best", although any kit is unsafe if installed wrong or used improperly. ZEX is great, NX is the best, but I've heard that NOS isn't good cause now Holley owns them, but i'm not too keen on that subject. I wouldn't bother with NOS, just get NX or ZEX since the majority of members on here use those brands. NX offers lifetime warranty on their solenoids (and all their other parts I believe) so you can keep sending solenoids in to get rebuilt.

with a ZEX kit, the way it works is you hook up the Zex "brain" (purple box) to your TPS wire, so it will only open the fuel/nitrous solenoids at WOT. so you floor your car, and when you want to spray, just turn on the box via the switch. i'm not sure exactly how the NX kits work.
