How many "proven members" do you think earned this right on this site without even turning a wrench? I'd say I'm a noob when it comes to dsms, but I double majored in electromagnetic engineering and astrophysics, so naturally, automotive mechanics is like 1+1=2 to me. But when I ask a question as a "noob," to confirm a simple question that has to do with a wiring harness swap, where more than 80 members have seen it, but none answer, or give any sort of suggestions, makes me think that this site is worthless. I just did a motor swap, and perhaps that because I'm a "noob," this site couldn't provide me with the essential info for such a task, but I accomplished it anyway. But what about those who aren't mechanically inclined, who can't afford to take their car to a shop, who don't really know enough to contribute to this site to become a proven member, who really just needs their car running? Perhaps they have two jobs and are enrolled in college? I don't even know why I'm trying to explain myself. All I know is... I don't have time for such bullshit.

It's not so much the proven members you want to really listen to as much as it is the Wisemen.

Like with all things, you win some and you lose some. Just keep posting while trying to be as descriptive as you can and hope for the best. (Be sure to search the forums before you post, as this site has been around for quite some time, and has a plethora of knowledge archived)

Being a Probationary Member doesn't stop you from searching our vast knowledge base. With statements like this...

I just bought a 1990 Eclipse GS Turbo about 3 weeks ago. I work a lot so I really don't have enough time to read up on forums and what not to troubleshoot my issues.

... it's obvious that you won't even make an effort. Those who contribute their time to this forum do so because they enjoy helping others, but we can't help those who refuse to help themselves.

The beauty here is you are free to leave, a negative attitude will destroy the respect an excellent education often earns!

Your background doesn't have much in terms of why you're a noob here; we all come from a diversified number of places with different takes on the same subject (hence why it's helpful to everyone). Like anything else, as a new member you need to prove yourself. I'm an aerospace engineer, this doesn't stop me from helping others on here without saying it's demeaning to me. I take pleasure in helping people for the sake of helping. You shouldn't think in a personal "only I want help" attitude. Everyone works, we all have time constraints but we make the time for this to benefit the community. If someone didn't answer quickly enough may simply be because out of the 80 that saw your post, the ones that had an answer for you were busy. This site not only gives you the opportunity to find answers you would otherwise not know but it also gives you access to a wealth of knowledge from other members and the ability to sell/buy from other trusted members, not to mention get deals from a vast number of vendors. Like anything else, you need to earn your place, complaining about it won't help you any.

where more than 80 members have seen it, but none answer, or give any sort of suggestions

Probably because this site has a fairly strict policy that basically says 'if you aren't 100% sure about an answer, don't post and spread misinformation'. Kudos to those 80 members who weren't sure and restrained themselves from potentially leading you down the wrong path.

this site is worthless

Ignorance (or arrogance) on your part. This website is fantastic! I've saved thousands of dollars and learned a huge amount of information from DSMtuners. It's not perfect and you don't always get your answer, but it's FREE.

That's amazing! You're one of how many who has followed down that same educational path? I hope you spend long agonizing hours slaving away so that the world is a better place for my children.

All I know is... I don't have time for such bullshit.

Perfect! There's the door, see ya.

dont think it could have been said much better. ive had the same issue with no one answering before. you want to know what fixed it about twenty minutes with my google search bar and i had my answers almost every time.

How could anyone possibly think this site is worthless? It has literally everything you could ever want to know about dsm's.

Its funny that the op doesn't have enough time to look up free information. Take it the to the dealership and see how much their information is worth...

Edit: Bingo, kreez nailed it...

This rant sounds pretty much like this:

- I am smarter than everybody else on this forum and I want everybody to know
- I know everything there's to know about DSMs, in fact I just completed an engine swap
- I tested the intelligence of every other member of this forum asking an obvious question, none of the members bothered to answer, the test failed
- my car still doesn't idle right
- this website is worthless because nobody wants to bother and hit the search button for me, again because I am too smart to do it myself.

Besides your academic achievements which I congratulate, and your holding two jobs that I deeply respect, you sound very much like Sheldon from 'The Big Bang Theory' (sorry for the reference to a popular television show that you obviously have no time to watch).

You have to understand that most of the 80 people that viewed your thread were probably looking for the same answer that you were looking for, you really don't want them to answer your question. Those who could answer probably rolled their eyes 'not an idle question again', having answered them a million of times.

It's great that a wealth of information is at your fingertips, at least make the effort to articulate a proper search for it...

I'd say I'm a noob when it comes to dsms, but I double majored in electromagnetic engineering and astrophysics, so naturally, automotive mechanics is like 1+1=2 to me.
Oh, and please elaborate on this one because it really makes you look like a character out of a sitcom!

Think about this, what if the company that you applied for a job for searches your social media activities (and yes, they can do that) and finds this thread (I am assuming you used your actual name as your nick)...is this the attitude you want to be associated with you?

In adittion to the comments you've already received here, if you're irritated all because of one electrical post that got viewed dozens of times and didn't get replies, keep in mind that a lot of people don't know a lot about electrical and choose to stay away from it. I for one do know electrical stuff, not all, but enough be confident in doing any electrical issue on my car. I've posted many questions that have gone unanswered. I got over it, and I'm still here on this forum seeking help when I need it, and providing help to others when I can offer a good solution. No one is forcing you to be part of this forum so if its not up to your engineering and physics standards, you know where the "delete account" icon is. No one will force you to stay either. How about you actually learn how to use this forum before you condem it as worthless.

Kinda funny, serviceguy's first comment was my first thought too.

This forum is far from worthless. This is actually the best DSM website I've ever found, with the most knowledgeable and helpful guys around. There is a catch to most of them helping you though. You have to be able to use the search bar. They like anybody else get sick and tired of answering the same questions over and over again, because someone is to lazy to search. I was a member here for over a year before I created my first thread. The whole time I mostly spent reading, and learning about these cars. If you don't have the time to read, then you obviously don't have the time to wrench.

Just from what I have experienced with "Noob Threads" is 9/10 times the question/questions they asked took longer to write than using the search option on the side. Almost every question from " Moving from t-25 to 4205 " to " car wont start " is on this site. Bashing the site because you didn't get an answer right away is not the correct way to do it. The proper way is it search for the answer, & if you cannot find it then post the question..

But when all else fails.... Its the Interwebs & no once forced you to join this site.

So ignorant to the site and it's many searchable forums full of YEARS of knowledge and information, you couldn't even find the Site Feedback forum to properly post a thread bitching about our site. That in mind, I suppose we also cannot expect you to find the search bar or know how to properly use it.

How many "proven members" do you think earned this right on this site without even turning a wrench?
Probably more than you could imagine, but said members were at least thoughtful enough to re-post factual information to achieve Proven Membership instead of bitching about how the site is structured.
I'd say I'm a noob when it comes to dsms, but I double majored in electromagnetic engineering and astrophysics, so naturally, automotive mechanics is like 1+1=2 to me.
AWESOME. Now that we all know you're clearly better than us....

We're not the only DSM forum on the internet, you know.
I just did a motor swap, and perhaps that because I'm a "noob," this site couldn't provide me with the essential info for such a task, but I accomplished it anyway.
Well we apologize that our series of geniuses weren't available to assist you at the exact second you needed them.
But what about those who aren't mechanically inclined, who can't afford to take their car to a shop, who don't really know enough to contribute to this site to become a proven member, who really just needs their car running?
They make up the majority of the site...and they seem to get along just fine- I assume, seeing as they don't create ridiculous threads like this one.
I don't even know why I'm trying to explain myself. All I know is... I don't have time for such bullshit.
Wow, you and I have SO much in common!
