New-to-me Talon
I'm picking up a 92 Talon (or so I am told.. its got an eclipse front clip on it) next Saturday. The car is in dire need of de-riceifying, and major cosmetic TLC. It only has some small issues mechanically.
The car has about 2k (so he says) on the following:
*APR head studs
*Cometic Multilayered steel headgasket (MLS)
*Weisco 8.5:1 pistons
*1g big rods
*timing belt tensioner and water pump
*balance shaft removal kit
*transmission rebuilt by dogbox, stage 2 with welded center diff
*Xtc stage 2 clutch, good for up to 400hp
*Big16g turbo
*Megan racing tubular Exhsust header
*3" o2 housing
*3" full turbo back exhaust
*huge front mount intercooler with all hard piping
*k&n filter
*Turbo XS blow off valve
*Turbo XS boot controller
*Walbro 255 fuel pump
*1/2" fuel line from filter to fuel rail with AN fittings on both sides of the rail
*adjustable fuel pressure regulator with gauge
*RC 550cc injectors
*4 bolt axle set up
The car had DSMLink in it but he sold it a few months back, currently on stock ECU, running rich. I have the stock injectors available to me (which I'll be running until I can buy some kind of engine management)
My Questions:
what kind of boost will be safe on this setup once tuned? What can I expect horsepower-wise? Where can I find a stock rear bumper & tail lights? I'm sure I'll have more as I start driving the car.

After you do all the normal fix ups, you can find a bumber at junkyard. You can maybe get 330 on it maybe a bit more

now im sure youve heard it a million times by now. but be careful buying a modified car. take your time checking everything over, and make sure no short cuts were taken.

Before you keep buying go fast parts I suggest you check up on the following:
1- boost leak test.
2- spark plug condition.
3- transfer case (x2) oil condition and quality.
4-trans fluid condition and quality.
5-oil change and filter.
Btw in my opinion I think that clutch is poopy. but if it works it works just keep in mind that you might be buying another clutch soon.
as far as boost: I would have to say that you should gradually increase the boost in intervals until you reach satisfaction BUT if you are on a stock ECU you wont be able to go past 16Psi on 450cc injectors, get ready to experience fuel cut if you max it out too. (the famous effect of hitting a brick wall at a fast speed).
if you are on 550cc injectors you should NOT try to keep driving it and wanting to boost it up if its untuned.

This is all planned, along with new tires and checking up on brake fluid and basically going over the whole car. I will say that for a modified car that looks as bad as this one does cosmetically and under the hood, it ran great in spite of the fact that its running super rich.

I had never heard of XTC before. I plan on putting a centerforce in it, unless in the time I have the car before that clutch dies, I read that there are better options for it. It will be getting a lightened flywheel when I do the clutch in it.

I was planning on just running it around 14-16 with stock injectors until I can replace the DSMLink he sold out of the car. My main concern is to just get it roadworthy and running good, even if its not fast, then get the car looking non-rice and at least in primer. I plan to give the entire engine compartment a once over and clean up the mess he has going on in there.

You might want to check out that motor mount, the drivers side mount. (front engine mount for those who are alternately correct).
anyways, the 2 bolts are missing in the front so Im wondering what is holding that thing on hopefully it has the other 2 on the side.
I just noticed the rear bumper is bondo'ed/smoothed to the body, thats going to be fun to replace. buy alot of sand paper.

Yes. Just looking for the best I can do on 93 octane. I havent seen any stations around me that have anything better than 93, and there are no E85 stations around.

id keep your right foot out of it until you get drive it for a while and get comfy with it, and get your dsm link... no reason to rush yourself needed to replace more parts... and id take alot of time under the car/hood and seeing what youve really got.

In the vehicle-specific "partout" section of our classifieds. Guys are parting out good cars every day.
Also, please try to use a more-specific thread title regarding your tech question(s) when starting a new thread. Yours didn't have a single topic-related searchable term within it.
