Do you lose boost if you get a blow off valve? My friend said that it loses boost and horsepower when you use a blow off valve.

What are the pros and cons of a BoV?

Your car already has a bov from the factory so what are you asking, just a little confused by what your saying.

A new BOV will hold more boost than your stock 2g bov. Say you turn up the boost with a boost controller to about 15psi. If you are running a stock 2g bov, boost will leak past the bov and you won't see any gains from turning up the boost.

You will lose boost by getting a new bov only if you install it wrong or if you get a bov that doesn't hold as much boost as your previous bov was holding. If you get a 1g bov, it should hold between 17-20psi before it starts to leak. It is not adjustable. If you get an adjustable bov it may be able to hold more. Check the manufacturers description for specs on the bov you are looking into buying. If your goals you have set for your car won't require an adjustable bov, the 1g is a great upgrade.

A bov is a must in our cars.. just dont worry about the question your asking.. or what your friends said... and if your cars stock i would upgrade to a 1G Bov

Pros: extends the life of your turbo,
awesome sound

cons: common to leak

LOL, what happens to the air being pumped by the turbo when you change gears and the throttle closes. Ever watch those movies where they are all going to drown and someone sacrifices their life on a suicide mission to open the relief valve so the excess water can be drained, well lets change that to blow off valve.

You won't lose psi by running a blow off valve like said these cars come with them. The 2g blowoffs are made out of plastic and commonly known to leak with the boost turned up. The 1g blowoffs are good and watch with the aftermarket ones. You should not vent to the atmosphere unless you have a stand alone engine management system or dsmlink.

Let's expand on that a bit, for the new member's sake.

Yes, our cars come stock with a blow off valve, or more accurately a compressor bypass valve, or a diverter valve. Most people use the term BOV, however, diverter valve is more accurate, for a very good reason.

The stock BOV recirculates the vented air back into the intake tract. This keeps the ECU happy because it already counted that air, and it expects that air to make it to the engine at some point. A recirculated valve keeps that air in the system. If you take that recirculation tube off, which now makes you venting that air to the atmosphere, the engine never sees that air that the MAS counted. Will it make you lose power to vent? Probably not. But you ARE losing metered air, and thus, your car will run richer, which can probably make you lose a little performance. Some people have had issues with stalling when they shift because of venting their BOV to atmosphere.

So, earlier, I said that the MAS counts the air before the BOV. That would hopefully lead you to realize that if the air were to be somehow counted AFTER the BOV, then the air count going into the engine would be correct. Which would be what we tend to do when we want to vent to atmosphere properly. A stand-alone engine management system or DSMLink can't do that alone, however. You'd require what's called a blow-through MAF system or a speed density setup. Both have pros and cons. You can read about them in other threads on here if you're interested in learning more.

Either way, recirculate your blow-off valve, keep your ECU happy, and do your boost leak tests regularly.

This guy ^^ is good!!!
I like yall moderators....yall are so smart!!! ;)

What most people do when they vent the BOV is get a MAFT and a GM MAF but to use that and run properly you should*** run with something to measure how rich or lean your running like a wideband and some type of fuel management system like the SAFCII or DSMLink!

but get a 1g for like 50 bucks if that and thats a decent price good upgrade to control boost leak if youre running higher boost then stock!

good luck

hahahah well put indeed

stock 2g bovs leak. get a 1g. just don't get a knock off greddy from ebay.
a leak bov is less power.
