Pistons question

Honing will not take off the material for pistons that are .020 over bore, only boring the block will get the bore to that size. Honing is the process that places the cross hatching in the cylinder bore for oil control. Those .5mm over bore pistons won't work unless you have the block bored. Later, Keith

why don't they offer stock size pistons anywhere then at any of the dsm parts stores someone said wiseco offers stock size but i can't find them.

Because it isnt the proper way of going about it .. if you ever look at when a engine is done and the inside with the cross hatching for the oil there would be no point because there are already 324908023498 scrap marks from the piston rings ..

no point in getting wesico unless you get like eagle rods with em .. if you are only doing pistons and arent getting anything honed ( which is a major mistake.. while you have a engine out you should get it over with ) just stick with 1g rods 2g pistons and buy some oem rings

ok. i understand what you mean. I am honing it, but it's not being bored. just honed. i know the 1g rods can hold some power so thats why im doing just pistons. im doing rod bearings, pistons and headgasket. how much material does the honing process typically remove. i know it only makes crosshatching but it obviously has to remove material to due so.

does'nt remove anything measurable unless your measuring in hundred thousnadths of an inch............forget the idea of boring anything with a hone!!! there is a reason machine shops pay tens of thousands of dollars for boring machines......:dsm:

ya it would be no different than you taking 320 grit sand paper and rubbing against it once .. thats why they bore it because obviously after wear there are much greater indentions and marks than that .. boring really shouldnt be all that expensive man =/ .. alough i dont know your budget ..
Goodluck though
