2 quick questions:

What size are the front drive axle castle nuts? I hate it when I can't even start a project before I need a new tool.

Secondly, are these bleeders the same as Russell bleeders?

Everybody I've talked to that has used them say they're great. Any refutations?

No new Castle Nuts came with mine - you may want to buy a Deep Well Impact Socket if you have to buy one - I split my regular 1/2 drive socket all to hell - Might as well be ready for the worst case - that way it will fly right off! I take it you are rebuilding the Calipers while you're in there- good idea - I'm sure you know you don't have to bleed any brakes to change an axle or a strut... Good opportunity to change out the inner wheel bearing seal & repack too.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll grap a 32 when I'm in.

I was originally going to tear apart the front axles, do CV boots, rotors, rebuilt calipers, and probably bearings all in one fell swoop. Now it's a "boot just ripped and need to get car back on the road before thursday and bloody hell it's 20 below at my apartment" kind of operation.

Are you sure you didn't mean your name to be C0CK? :) J/K :D

Picked up the new axle, it came with a new 32 MM nut so chaye was right on.

My Haynes manual makes it sound like I won't be able to separate the drive axle from the intermediate shaft. Can somebody tell me what it takes? From the picture I don't see a way to lock together unless that circlip locks inside the splines on the inboard joint.

Words cannot express my envy right now. Especially since I spent part of today outside helping my roommate throw a new blower motor in his pickup. Acch, who am I to complain. All the Canucks on this board are crotch deep in snow 9 months of the year.

im the one that said it comes with the nut :p
it took a BFH to get mine off i acualy snapped a hub puller in the process. only thing holding it on is pressure + rust.

hey i think he said that i was right on onthe size of the nut or the socket required totake out the nut......:p

btw if your going to take the axle out ...do not hammer it out unless you wont use that again..there is a special tool
it bolts to your wheel studs and then you turn on this bolt in the middle that ####hes on the axle..
i rented it from autozone here in salem oregon..
do that cause hammering it out will take a hella long time....but youll ruin that axle..
good luck man
oh and to take out the nut i had to take off the wheel take the pin out put the wheel back on lower the car use a freakingly long 1/2 breaker barn and lots of sweat to take it out...

Sorry, should have specified he was right about the size. You were right about getting new nuts. To replace my old tired seized up ones.

It does - remove lower Strut Bolts - turn Steering wheel hard left - & just knock outboard on the CV axle at the Center Bearing with a big screwdriver & hammer - then lay the spline on top of the Center bearing & get CV shaft out of the Hub... with whatever it takes!

If it makes the Canucks feel any better it's getting down to 22 here tonite - BTW I'm a Hockey fan & ECHL Sponsor - have some great Canadian friends & clients - including the Captain of the Canadian National Soccer Team.

Alright, got the new driveaxle in, everything went alright except I had to cut out off the sway bar link (don't ask), and I'll need to pop the control arm off again soon since the bottom boot is starting to split. And I peened over some threads on the ball joint. Okay, it was ugly.

On the other hand, learned a couple tricks for next time. Now I'll probably practice taking apart the old shaft before I turn it in. Thanks for the help guys.
