What are the advantages? I want to upgrade to a gm mas and translater and I know that to vent to the atmosphere it is best to have a blow through system.

My question is why would I need to vent? Is there an advantage over recirculating?

The only advantage is the noise you get. There is absolutely no gain in performance.

from other things i have read on here before becoming a member, isn't it true that you actually lose some performance with these car when venting out?

Venting causes problems, because the ecu is adjusting for the air to be recirculated. Recirculation is highly advised, the only benifit for venting is the "cool noise".

WELL ONE ADVANTAGE IS AIRFLOW. LOOK INSIDE YOUR FACTORY INTAKE THAT RECIRC TUBE EATS UP ABOUT 30-40% IMO OF THE INTAKE AIR PATH IT LOOKS LIKE ! ! ! !

I have absolutely no disadvantages to venting with my car. But NO there are no gains to it.

Venting to the atmosphere with a GM MAFT blow-through system is not bad. If you are running your stock MAS and venting to the atmosphere, then it will be bad because their is less air in the intake system than what the MAS tells the ECU, then the ECU provides the engine with an incorrect air/fuel mixture. With the GM MAFT, if you install it between the BOV and the intake manifold, it will cause no problems because the air is measured right before the intake.

PLEASE EVERYONE READ THE QUESTION CAREFULLY!

He is asking specifically about a GM MAF Translator and venting - this isn't a generic BOV venting question. He wants to know if there is any disadvantage to recirculating with this setup. The standard BOV venting arguments do not apply here, as the MAF is different than the factory Mitsu unit.

There's still no advantage, unless you want to make more noise. I'm running the GM MAF in draw through and it is very loud, I couldn't imagine wanting it louder.

This will kinda explain not recirculating, as for the gm mas the sound from an open BOV and also a little more flow maybe because the gm is more open than our stockers. But for your information I believe our stock units(2g) can flow to almost 400 hp, as the stock 1g is considerably lower. Good luck with your choice I hope I was able to help.

I personally would not go by hearsay. The thread you quote is one persons experience. For every person that has actually tried to vent and failed I could show you one that has not. Most the people that I have seen that talk about how it wont work are the ones who have little or no experience with it. I know if at least 10 DSMs running around here that are vented and have no problems.

I think if anyone is going to put this to rest they need to take the car to the dyno and show results with and without. If you are going to go by hearsay then I would listen to people who have personal experience or real numbers to back up thier claims. All I know is that I can easly run 12s vented on pump gas. I'll be running better this spring with the same setup plus a few other goodies.

Thanks alot for all of your advice. I will not run vented now since there seems to be no advantage and it might cost more $.

yea dont 4get that on some dsm's nothing bad happens when venting with out gm maf. basically just vent the stock bov and go for a drive and see how it feels then u'll know if u can vent without a gm maf set up

wow i learn too much on here! hahaha

Yeah and don't forget to cap the intake pipe. You would not believe how many people have had that problem because they dont realize they have to cap the intake if they vent.

What do you have to do to vent the stock 2g bov in order to see if your DSM will be able to handle it or not?

I personally feel that there is an advantage to venting with a the GM mas. You are free to run whatever BOV you want. Some BOV's cannot be recirculated, so the only way to safely run them is with the GM mas. IMHO, the Tial BOV is the best around and it does not recirculate.
