First taste of DSM unreliability :/
I was driving down the road in my recently purchased 93 Talon TSi AWD when, between shifts, my rpm's shot up to the rev limiter for no particular reason. I put it in gear to pull down the revs, but my car was going like a bat out of hell because it was stuck on full throttle! I began trying to slow down and saw a truck pulling out in front of me, so I slammed on the brakes, cut to the left onto the shoulder and killed the engine. So the car is fine, besides whatever's busted. The only thing I can think of that it could be would be maybe the idle motor, I did have some erratic idle problems before. Anyone else have any suggestions? And if it is the idle motor, where can i get it cheap? The dealer wants $400 for one.

Hey the same exact thing happened to me couple month ago so might have a good answer for you. It started out with idle problems in the summer, car sometimes dies coming to a stop at a lite or parking. A month later the same thing happen to me. Twice I had to pull over and kill the engine like you did. If I tape the gas pedel a little it goes back to normal and I thought it was the ISC as well at first. Two weeks later my car died, no spark. It turned out to be my ECU, two of the caps had leaked and part of the circuit board was burn out. Maybe you have the same problem. BTW I smell something burning while driving from time to time, kind of like hot antifreez. Good luck.

I don't really smell anything burning when it's messing up, so I don't think it's the ECU... I took it in to the shop to have the ISC tested so we'll see if it's that or not. Goro21, where did you find the one you bought for $250? I haven't been able to find them online. Thanks for the help so far all, I need to get my DSM back before it starts really snowing.

Well, the crisis has been averted for now. Turns out that it wasn't the ISC, it was a bolt that had been dropped somewhere and stuck the throttle body open, hah. It didn't damage anything so far, and the shop I take my car to was really good about it. Removed it for free, of course, and paid for my towing. Hopefully there isn't anything that it damaged but if there was they will probably fix whatever it is for free.

haha that problem w/ the 1.5-2.0rpm happened to me when i hit the gas, and between shifts i'd get a 500rpm gain w/o hitting the gas. but that was because my tps sensor was off by about 10 degrees.
