I have an 95 Talon tsi automatic that has over 95,000 miles on it. Heard that it's less likely to get crankwalk if it's automatic and that many miles on it. Is that true?

I heard the US is going full-metric by Congressional Decree in September of 1968.

Funny the things we hear, aren't they?

There doesn't seem to be much correlation between crankwalking automatics, nor ACT 2600 clutches. It seems more related on how often you say the chant.

Don't worry about CW. There doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it other than repair it anyway.

I have read that there is less of a chance of crankwalk with auto trans cars. If you do some reading on crankwalk theory, it makes sense that autos will be less likely to get it, with the AWD manual cars being the most susceptable.

That was my whole purpose of buying an a/t gsx...because i can't afford any downtime (for 6 bolt and m/t swap) till spring anyway...

so you're saying i have as much chance of getting crankwalk with my a/t gsx as an m/t gsx would...???

crankwalk from what i can tell is caused by a thrust bearing failure, so when you depress the clutch it moves the crank.

yeah, that was my understanding... no clutch...no thrust bearing...no walking crank...no shooter on the roof of the Normal, IL plant picking off engineers and motor builders.

Defiant, thanks for the straight answer!

Hello im new to the DSM world, and I can't find anthing on crankwalk with automatics, there's very little info out their on this?????? Is it common in automatics, like in the manuals??
I just sold my 1993 transam, and than bought a 1997 gs-t 89,000miles perfect shape, and drives perfectly, but this crankwalk issue has me thinking. Anyone with any info about crankwalk with automatics would be helpful.

crankwalk is mainly in the 5 speed 2g, if your automatic then don't worry about it, for automatics to have crankwalk is kinda like having a 6 bolt crankwalk it can happen but not as often enough to worry about.

Thanks, these DSM'S are fun, but I do miss my V8. But i could easily grow to like this turbo stuff, much more :dsm::dsm:complex than upgrading an LT-1

agreed. crankwalk is RARE on A/Ts,

i think its because when you push in the clutch on a manual, it puts pressure on the crank,

i have an auto gsx, im really happy even though i only like to drive manuals. it'll be nice if they had a recall on these blocks so we could all get brand spanking new blocks to abuse. i would be very happy!
