My stock oil gauge stopped working?

I know that the problem is that the wire came loose from some where in the engine. Can someone please tell me where it is hooked up at? I have had this problem before and I took it to the dealer and they told me the wire had come loose from the oil sender unit but I don't know where it is or what wire to look for. Thanks in advance.

This is a 1G, but it's near as dammit. The idiot light sender and the pressure sender are in almost the same places, and very similar in shape. All this lives on the left-front of the engine, below your timing belt case.

What Defiant is trying to say is...look under the car and re-attach the dangling wire to that upside-down bell looking thing. It will have a small nipple on it to slide the end of the wire on. If that's not it, well, ya prolly blew a hole in your block or punched a hole in the oil pan.

Let's hope it's the wire :D

Useful Tip:

Clean off the upside down bell thinger that the wire clip attaches to. Also, take a very small screwdriver, and slightly bend the little tab of metal inside the dangly clip so that it holds onto the knob better.

Also, you should be able to see the dangly wire just by looking under your car. It should most likely be near the driver side front wheel.

Did you look first, before asking? :)

I guess this is a common problem.

Why is your motor so much cleaner than mine Defiant?!

in your pic... you show the "good pressure tap" as the upper allen bolt... is this where you would install a stainless steel oil supply line to a turbo? i used the allen bolt hole just below where u said good pressure tap... this still ok??

thanks

I'm not sure, but were you following installation directions when you did it?

Oh, and mine's so clean because that's not a picture of my engine. Mine's a hideous mess down there. I'm still looking for the goddamned leak.

Mine had the same problem when i got it and the guy put a aftermarket mechanical guage in it instead of fixing the problem. And all i had to do was clean up the wire, and reconnect to the sender after tensioning the spring clip a little with a small screwdriver.

the oil pressure gauge on my 99 gst wont work can any one give me posible solutions and the a picture location of where the sensor that sends that signal in the engine is...thanx

Doesn't "Pressure gauge sender" in Defiant's image above explain things clearly enough? If not, that's the oil pressure sender to your gauge, and the other posts on this thread describe pretty much everything else. The other picture shows an example of what typically happens to the oil pressure sender wire; it either comes off the sender (it's just a clip) or breaks at the connector. ???
