i just finished an at to mt tranny swap on a 91 eclipse non turbo. i went to fire up the car and the starter spins but doesn't seem to engage the flywheel. any ideas about this? are there different trannys or fly wheels for different year mt non-turbo dsms? the flywheel bolted up fine and was a 5 bolt setup. i made sure to bolt the flywheel directly to the crank end (i removed both shims and flex plate) please help!!

are there any electrical issues that could cause this? could it just be a bad starter? (as far as i know the starter worked fine before the swap, but who knows?)

I just completed the swap also, I cant get my clutch to let go so I can shift into any gear. When I start it up I hear a weird noise but then it goes away. I dunno what thew things deal is.

Only thing i can think of why your starter isnt hitting the fly would be you forgot to take that thick bearing thing that sits in the crank, between some stuff, flywheel must be directly mounted to the crank with NOTHING in bettween the 2

what difference is there in flywheels? like different years? the guy brought in a used flywheel and clutch from a junk yard i assumed it was the correct one. how do i know what one is needed?

its a fwd non turbo. it has a 5 bolt flywheel so i assumed it was the correct one. any turbo motors are going to have a 6 or 7 bolt flywheel. any other ideas?

oh i shoulda looked at the first post the 5-bolt patterns are the 1.8's correct and the 2.0's are 6-bolt patterns I have no idea why its not engaging unless you forgot to take something out between the flywheel and crank good luck

On the other hand i still cant get my car to go in gear! My tranny wont disengage the clutch!

sweet, i put in a spare starter i had laying around and the car starts right up. somehow the auto tranny took out the starter when it went out, weird!
